Bombing Target Designation Question
« on: March 19, 2012, 05:21:01 PM »
Is there a general consensus on the identification of targets?  Or is it to each his own?
This is what we use but I've seen guys start the numbering from the SW quadrant.

Most I know start with the spawn hanger as 1, and go clockwise... Never bothered with numbering conventions for anything other than hangers
Guys like me are the reason guys like you hate LA's

We just put a big X in the middle and try to hit that.

That is because our P38s were not equipped bomb sights. Durn those designers for forgetting that detail.

Trukk,

Every numbered map that I have encountered was done the way you're quadrant map points out.  What I like about the above picture where you actually draw mid lines north / south and east / west, it helps a great deal to imagine the actual field target.

Hotard starting with the spawn hangar (only helps with Vehicle Base maps).  I have also found it a lot clearer when assigning Vehicle Hangers at a vbase to assign them by their surroundings.  For example "radar hangar" conventional system 1, "spawn hangar" conventional 2, "twin hangar (left/right)" conventional 3 and 4, gives the assigned bomber some visual clues.  Other descriptive adjectives commonly used, "big pad, small pad, stand alone, and the newly added Storch hangar".

The best use of the number system gives both hangar number and surrounding clues.  Remember there are maps and fields (usually ports) that are not laid out in the same direction as the maps.

No surprise, P-38s can't dive bomb worth a crap; even your dive flaps can't help you.  :devil

... or "hit the thing over there not burning".

Of course using the term HIT in our squad will usually result in a bunch of 38s colliding with said point of reference.

A perfect horde mentality answer.

No need to assign targets because most of the horde can't hit what they are aiming for any way. Also, you have soooooo many bombs that missing with 80% is ok, there are plenty to pick up the slack.

Not picking on the POTW here, for all we know Junky has once again engaged his mouth without starting the old brain  :devil However this is becoming more and more the mind set with players today. I join missions more often than not as most of my squad is in semi retirement and when I have a mission leader come out with "bomb everything until is all down" I just roll out of formation and go look for a different fight.

More often than not I fly with the 365th FBG Hell Hawks. They are a fun group to fly with, and they are pretty talented when it comes to playing the game. Missions are organized, but there is no "yes sir, no sir" crap. Everyone has a bit in the mission and the "team" is counting on you to do your part. These guys do it right, I wish more squads would.

I guess both you clowns have a hard time reading, I made it really big this time in the quote above, and I though I used small enough words for you guys to get it, I'm NOT picking on the POTW!!! What I WAS pointing out is an attitude that is becoming more and more prevalent in the game, and that is less tactics, more numbers.

Of course rising to "defend" your squads honor so quickly may of course fit under the old saying "...I think you doth protest too much" in which case ..... well I'll just let it go at that. Ya'll will do a much better job of making yourselves look stupid than I could  :aok
