Sound bug/issue
« on: March 19, 2012, 08:05:11 PM »
Ok, to go along with my graphical issues - aircraft shadows not working and framerate problems.

I now have an issue with the sounds.

If I start a new sortie the sounds dont auto trigger and are all silent until the point where I type /.resetv .
I went out of the game and put the sounds to defaults, same thing had to resetv.
I moved AH to a backup file and downloaded the game and installed it fresh, same thing, had to resetv to get any sounds.
No matter what I have tried I have to resetv to get anysounds.

That sounds like a Windows Update buggered your drivers. Not that Im an expert on everything Windows... but its happened before.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

.resetv resets the game voice server running on your computer, it does not have a direct link to the game sounds themselves.

It really sounds like the sound device selected for playing sounds is not correct, in the Options->Preferences->Game Sounds.  If you have multiple sound devices in your computer, Windows will order them based on who answers the bell first, at boot time.  It is quite easy for Windows to switch what it thinks is the default sound device. Not only that, but there are many ill-behaved applications which will quietly switch the default for you.

As far as graphic issues goes, I need a DXDIAG ouput to even begin to guess.

Which 5700 series ATI card is it?

You need to update the sound card drivers.  What the heck is the "SRS Audio Essentials"?

What in game settings are you using?  Are you forcing any options in the ATI Catalyst Control Center?

Have you tried simply removing that SRS software and installing the latest drivers for the RealTex chip?  I cannot see yet another layer of software for sounds being a good thing.

Which drivers are you using with the 5770?

The Drivers I use for my 5770 are 10.3 because the new ones cause the framerate to drop rather badly.

The shadows and frame rate were good before 2.27 Patch 2.

The SRS has been there since I got my PC; It is only active during Media Player.

Actually no, that filter is called everytime ANY sound has to be played.  It is how Windows works with multiple sound devices.  The device is chained in the sound playback list.

Are you running with any of the new options in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel selected?

Realtek HD is selected. I'll have a mess around looking for new drivers for it a little later. I have gardening to do  :cry
