Tomato
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:03:11 AM »
Fruit or vegetable?

My way of thinking is this.  If you yank it from the ground, then it's a vegetable.  If you pull it from a tree branch, then it's a fruit.

According to the wise Wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato

It says a fruit.

I disagree.  Let's call and write our congressman whomever he or she may be and let's get this put into the Constitution as an Amendent to settle this dispute.

All in favor for tomato as a vegetable, say "Aye"!

A lot of things we commonly call vegetables really aren't.

Tomato is a fruit..

Corn is a grain..

Peas and beans are legumes..   although I guess nutritionists now consider legumes as vegetables, which makes no sense according to the definition of vegetable I learned in botany class..  :headscratch:  Does that mean peanuts are now vegetables too?

Most of the tomato's that I consume come in a can or jar. So in my experience, tomato's are more of a jarred or canned variety.

It's a fruit.  Something about the way it grows and develops.  If I go into any more detail, I may get caught lying...I'm a history major  :D

You guys are crazy.  Tomatoes are red, except when they're green.  Or yellow, which is called gold.

You sound like kids arguing over what flavor the blue "fruit punch" is.  What a dumb argument since there is no naturally occuring flavor that tastes like that, so it is simply the "blue flavor".

Still, I think people who worry about it too much will call a tomato a fruit.  Which it is.  Except for one specific tomato which got beet(en), but that's an old story.

Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
