How many cooling fans are in your rig?
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:08:03 PM »
I got bored and decided to add a couple fans to my machine. I ordered a 4 pack of 120mm fans and 2 140mm fans and went to town today. I now have (2) 120mm intake fans on the bottom, (3) 120mm intake fans on the front, and (2) 140mm fans exhausting on top. This doesn't include the (2)  push/pull 120mm setup on my H80 (set as intake). So if you count every fan in the case (including the PS and VC) I have 12 fans :huh :lol. Its no TD system (wiring wise) but good enough for me. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

Inside the case:

Front intake:

Top exhaust:

I went from 7 plus my heat sink and video card totaling 9, to 5 plus my heatsink and video card, totaling 7. When it is said and done, I'll have ~12 as I hope to switch to watercooling. 6 fans across the top, 3 pushing, 3 pulling, my rear exhaust, and 4 fans on the bottom, 2 pushing 2 pulling, along side my HDD cooling fans.

I would take pics and show my case, but I dont have the patience to un hook everything and take pictures.

I just have made improvements on the NZXT Tempest by using superior fans.   Six fans.

Top 140x2:    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242011
Front 120x2:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185058

Rear/Side 120mm: Stock (when they go, I'll replace them): With Low db/high CFM fans.

Got enough fans in there?! :O

I only run off of 8 fans (that includes the CPU/GPU/PSU).

Upper Layer, 3 fans (In, Out, PSU):

Lower Layer, 5 fans (In, 2 Out, CPU, GPU):

That is pretty much the identical case i have minus the side panel: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

Keep in mind that if you run a large cpu cooler such as the cm hyper212+ you will need to remove that side panel fan. I still cant run the side 120mm fan as it will interfere with my radiator.

Which is why spending more time looking at the Width of Cases is important.    The last thing you want to do is buy your part and find out later that: "Nope, it isn't going to fit".    Research is imperative.

You can get a slimmer fan to go on the window, depending on the clearance needed.

4) 120mm and 1) 140mm.

Recently switched all my 120mm fans to Noctua NF-S12B FLX fans.  Really quiet.  Almost sounds like a gentle breeze now, instead of fans moving air.

I have a Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced case and love it. It has lots of places to add fans. Currently, not counting the 135mm fan on the CPU cooler and the 135mm fan on the PSU, I have:

2x 140mm Exhaust on top
1x 120mm Exhaust at back
1x 140mm Inlet at Front
1x 140mm Inlet on Bottom
1x 80mm Inlet on Side Panel behind CPU
1x 120mm circulation fan behind the HDDs on the cage

In summer when the room is a bit warmer I'll take off the clear side panel which has a single 120mm Inlet and swap it for the solid panel that has two. No stagnant air in my case!

Whether running a P95 test or Furmark the case hardly breaks 30c. Highest my CPU gets at it's 4.4 overclock is 64c and about the same for the overclocked 6950 video card.

In my HAF 932 (full tower), I have the fans like this, excluding the CPU cooler/fan:

In:
Front:  230mm (came with the tower), 120mm
Bottom: 2 x 120mm
Side: 4 x 120mm

Out:
Top: 2 x 120mm
Rear: 1 x 120mm

I also have my P/S mounted at the top, so it exhausts out of the top as well.

All of my 120mm fans are Yate Loon D12SM-12, but I will most likely change them to the fans Karaya mentioned a few months ago.  (Quieter with more flow).

I also use a manual fan controller so that it doesn't sound like a hair dryer...
