Aviator goggles for motorcycle use

I'm absolutely fed up with using a full face helmet, it was so hot here last week, my head was soaking wet by the time I got to work. Does anyone have any experience with aviator style goggles on their motorcycles? I don't want to buy a crap set and end up having shards of plexiglass in my eye if some car in front of me throws up a stone.

This is what I was interested in... ok, I don't like Spitfires but the RAF definitely made some nice goggles.

I'm kinda sad what this game has done to the poor old Spit. People say "I don't like Spitfires, but..." in the same manner as "I'm not gay, but..."

I don't know anything about motorsicles, but if you're looking at WWII flight goggles, check out the American AN-6530 goggles.  Although I suspect their glass lenses would be a safety issue.

when I was younger down in Oklahoma I used to wear them & nothing else. Mine never fogged, were lined with soft calf hide, never got scratched up, were pretty sturdy...I love 'em!

The two paned glass goggles are based on RAF Mk VIII goggles and have been used and sold for motorcycle use forever.  All kinds of em out there for sale.

So many of the companies are either Euro or Kiwi based, it literally doubles the price listed.

I was hoping someone actually saw something similar at a US shop and could refer me.

you need to also get a white scarf and some riding breeches.

Lots of those style goggles out there.  The trick is finding "real" goggles and not some costume item.  I think I would shop motorcyle shops only, anything else is likely to be cheap garbage.

  Seriously reconsider your fullface helmet! I'm sure you can find 1 with adequate ventilation that wont be too uncomfortable.

   I went down and hit face first on a concrete divider,this snapped the chin piece of my helmet right off. If I wasnt wearing a full face helmet I dont think I would be here,well atleast I wouldnt be sa pretty as I am!

 It's hot in leathers too but I'd never ride without them,a wet tshirt makes for good cooling!

 It is hot as hell in Florida also but I wouldn't ride with out jeans (wont do much, but better than shorts), leather jacket, full face helmet, gloves, and boots as a minimum. You don't want to leave your kids fatherless over the heat.

I have a White Shoei X-Eleven Helmet, and don't leave home without it... or if you can afford it... Shoei X-Twelve Helmet.

Guess you have to place the real value on your noggin'...

I've been riding for 32 years with a half-helmet and a pair of these: (for some unexplained aerodynamic reason, they channel the air perfectly away from my eyes)

I was riding my cafe racer with aviator google. Off course you look cool but be mindful that you are as unsafe as you can be. At any rate, make sure you find a pair that allow pereferical vision. They are still creating a hot/sweaty pocket around your eyes on hot days, which is not too comfortable.

And of course, open face helmet will give you the opportunity to walk the road to look for your jaw. Realise that any forward impact on your face is like not having a helmet at all.

I've been riding a bike for over 40 years. I use a full face helmet with the face shield up. I also wear a joe rocket armored mesh jacket in the summertime including AZ and southern Louisiana.

For eye protection use a set of aviator style dark glasses. You can get a second set in yellow or clear for night time driving. That gives good coverage. You'll find in hot weather the goggles will cause your face to sweat under them and can cause them to fog up or put sweat in your eyes. The glasses give you enough flow to stay cool and protect your eyeballs. Just make sure they have shatterproof lenses and some UV protection.

I have a RF1100 by Shoei now, it has 7 vents but my head still sweats like a Rosie O'Donald at a buffet. I'm looking at a 1/2 or even 3/4 helmet that gives me a lot better ventilation. Anything above 80 degrees it get uncomfortable, anything above 90 degrees and I get dizzy from the heat within a few minutes.

I can't wear all the gear when I'm commuting to and from work; for starters, I can't wear jeans to work very often and I need to look semi-presentable (not a head full of sweaty hair) when I arrive. Now that I'm doing some consulting work, it is even more important.
