Ooooold school! We've got one of those helmets in a case at NASC. I can't imagine that mask being remotely comfortable...

I was excited to be dressed like:

That old rubber mask smelled divine (and amazingly fit). I was sorely disappointed when flight helmets lost the 'shade visor.' ;)

But .....

I've warned the wife that if I ever build the F4U cockpit (I threaten often) that something like this would come with it (if I can find them for purchase):

(Such are the dreams and fantasies of some virtual wanna-bes.)  :D

Shade visor? Was there something other than the sunglass-type visor to black things out?

No. I mean the design where the shade slid in and out of a visor via depressing a button and raising and lowing it.

It may be my terminology. I have it highlighted in blue below.

P.S. The crack in the bottom of the 'button slot' is identisal to one I had in my old helmet. I'd swear this was it if I didn't know better.

There were 'dual visor" helmets out later .

I thought they were pretty cool.

Stupid negligent discharge. The funniest part was that after posing for the trophy shot he passed out due to excitement/alcohol and smashed his head on the floor. That's when we posed for the second trophy shot with me standing on him.

Seriously though, very, very lucky and very, very irresponsible and stupid. Don't play with guns when drinking kids.

The pellet went right between the tendon and artery on the middle finger without damaging them, then turned 90 degrees on the bone. Amazingly lucky. Hence the huge scars, put me to sleep for 2 hours to open the whole finger and remove the lead without damaging anything.

I would say how many stitches they had to use to put my finger back together....but I never went to the hospital, just took care of it myself :O

when I show people the scar I ask them how they think it happened....haha most guess chainsaw.... :bhead

like would I even have any fingers left if it was a chainsaw...durrrp

*hangs head in stupidity*

Yeah ink, alligators are a damn site worse than .22 pellet guns :D

I was fixing it up my self for 24 hours, wash the wounds out with boiling water and salt, slapped some honey on there, but when my finger locked up and started going purple I figured the lead must be still in there and went for an xray. 40 hours later and here I am.
