A member of another forum posted a thread I thought some of you guys might be interested in.  It contains a bunch of photos his grandfather took while serving on the USS Tennessee about 1930.

You do realize the Navy seamen yer lookin at are young guys who all have very physical jobs..
..no elevators in that bad boy battlewagon, all straight up and down ladders.

Heck even I was a skinny kid when I worked the line, walkin 2 miles to fix an F-4, carryin my toolbox, test gear, field jacket ..on any average day.
Didn't put on much weight till I got out of workin on airplanes.

I think the original comment about fat people was mostly about the pics of the civilians.  Even the ones dressed nicely (ie. not laborers) were not chubby at all.
