Track IR movements ported over to the film viewer
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:26:07 AM »
Next big step in films is to have TrackIR movemnts added to the Film recording so on playback the realtime head position and views are shown.

Would make both Track IR discussions a lot more productive, and would greatly improve film quality and easy of use/posting.

Thanks.  :salute

+1 I'd love this too.  I wouldn't get my hopes up though.  It would be quite a bit more info to capture in realtime than is currently captured.  6 new axes' inputs to grab in realtime.

Still, I'd love it, and wholeheartedly support its inclusion.

I would guess that only amounts to one more plane in your close vicinity. However, the sampling rate probably needs to be higher for TIR than for close planes, to get more correct head movement (more sample points, less interpolation)

From what I've heard Skuzzy say before, Ace High cannot record TIR input because there is no event to capture (like a keypress). That's why you get "recorded head views" if you use a hat switch, but nothing if you use TIR or a mouse to move your view around.

But... it captures your control inputs, right?  Or does it merely capture your aircraft's position and attitude?

I would think the data is there, but the coad isn't to mine the data and turn it into the views that show in the game. Seeing as its "only" a film view and there are such a small percentage of folks using TrackIR it wouldn't be a priority to spend the time it would take to fix it.

There are probably more TIR pilots than you think. Although it would be nice to record the TIR inputs, I think many would be satasfied with being able to use TIR during playback inside the Film Viewer - especially the movie-makers amongst us.

I would settle for that as well.  :aok

That would work for me...  Heck, when I watch a film now, I am always trying to change the view by turning my head anyway.

Me too!  The other one that gets me is when I'm in a buff and go to F3 mode.  I would very much like to be able to use TIR just for pitch and yaw in F3 mode.

It drives me nuts when I'm playing other games too.  FPS's don't use TIR other than ArmA.  Neither do a lot of other flightsim type games...  It annoys me no end.  :D

If I can't get my views recorded, I'd settle for being able to use it in the viewer.
