kamakazii
« on: April 05, 2012, 11:06:34 AM »
this is a tactic that was used by the japs often why do we not have the option of loading up a zero or d3 with a bunch of comp b or what not and diving into a carrier
now one would not take out a carrier but say you carry 3000 lbs of exsplosive so it would take 3 guys doing this for it to happen

IMO, add it but as an arena option. That way, we could use it for FSO and scenarios, where everything is more organized and last ditch attempts can be made. Kamikaze events could also be quite fun if planned right.

But of course, turn it off in the MA.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

I will say YES to the Pe-8. :D While it's numbers were highly limited and it's use low, it does make for a better wish. :x

If it were done it would need to be only certain Japanese planes. Since it fit with the warrior culture and ethos of the Japanese I'm sure almost every Japanese plane had a story of being used in this manner. Some research should be done to see which planes were used by these specific units for Kamakazi missions. My guess it would only be fighters, no Vals, Kates or Betty's. And just from memory (subject to being very wrong) all I remember reading about was one 500kg bomb.

Certainly a plus for scenarios, maybe for MA. What would be fun for scenarios, down the road would be the Japanese Cherry Blossom suicide rocket. Tail end was a rocket, front end was the Japanese Long Lance torpedo, small wings limited range. Carried below Betty and Sally Bombers. Had to get within 10 miles, I think.

Imagine a scenario where a bomber pilot drops this, bomber disappears and the pilots shifts to the rocket cockpit. It would require a real coordinated BARCAP to get the bombers before the released, and high F4UCs to dive in as last ditch effort to get the Cherry Blossoms as they tried to make it through ack.

Could add to scenario, maybe even MA.

Kamikaze aircraft were essentially pilot-guided explosive missiles, purpose-built or converted from conventional aircraft, without the ability to deliver torpedoes or bombs or attack other aircraft, or even to land. Pilots would attempt to crash their aircraft into enemy ships in what was called a "Body Attack" (体当たり; 体当り, taiatari) in planes laden with some combination of explosives, bombs, torpedoes and full fuel tanks; accuracy was much better than a conventional attack, and the payload larger. A kamikaze could sustain damage which would disable a conventional attacker and still achieve its objective. The goal of crippling or destroying large numbers of Allied ships, particularly aircraft carriers, was considered to justify sacrificing pilots and aircraft

Nazi Germany formed its own group of suicide aircraft pilots called the Leonidas Squadron, but the German commanders were more reluctant to use them.

fyi, Japanese players have specifically posted in opposition to kamikaze requests in the past.

Also, we don't want carriers to be more vulnerable than they already are.  Carriers off of a base mean there is a fight.  You are asking to be able to end that fight even faster.
