Throttle doesn't work when mapped to buttons or keys

I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem, but I've tried mapping throttle to my + and - keys... any key on the keyboard for that matter... and throttle will not move. However it will work fine when mapped to my mouse wheel, but then I cannot use my gamepad, which I prefer. Any tips?

The default throttle keyboard mapping is the - and = keys. Note that it's the keyboard keys not the keypad keys.They will not work if the throttle is mapped to an analog controller. Check your controller mappings and make sure the throttle isn't mapped to anything. Open the keyboard mapping screen and press the - and = keys and see if they are assigned to throttle increase and decrease.
