Bad Luck
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:24:28 AM »
ever have a sortie when your luck runs out after being too lucky? Ever notice it ussually happens when in a perk plane?

I was flying a 262 yesterday against a large unknown enemy darbar without many friendlies yet taking interest in it. It turned out to be a B-17 raid with a P-47 escort. Killed a dozen of them and landed.

No sooner had I landed than more reports of another massive buff raid are on country channel so I upped another 262 and killed a dozen more.

This killing spree got some interested in upping 262's on the enemy side but they seemed to be not very vigilant in looking around. I killed one 262 without them even seeing me then started sneaking up on his wingman also in a 262.

Then lady luck left me.

I crept up to d600 before the second 262 noticed me and I fired but he must of heard me even though I was low six because he started to evade just as I began to fire.

I chased him a bit through many evsives then got a tracking shot in a lead turn and blew his tail off.

however as the tail came off and he began tumbling end over end he was spraying 30mm everywhere and my luck was just bad enough at that point that as I flew up and away I was hit in the wingtip by 30mm and lost a wing.

I was thinking to myself... yeah that just happened. If I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all.

At this point it was a race to the ground between two disabled 262 dweebs and I piloted my 1 winged 262 knife edge as much as possible to minimize the decent rate whie waiting for the girating enemy tail-less 262 to finally spin into the ground. I won the race against gravity and got the kill. However 1 wing is not sufficient to avoid a mid air collision with a planet so I had to bail out and lose some perk points.

I remember losing a Spitfire Mk V to a F4U-1C that way about 11 years ago.  I blew his tail off, that flipped him over so he was pointing backwards and he shot me in the face with four 20mm cannons.

Seems like luck is still in your favor... by a 10 fold.   ;)

That happened to me while I was in an I-16 vs a George.  We were buzzing around at 10k or so trying to maneuver in to position when I got the upper hand in a rolling scissors, promptly blew the back half of his plane off and then watched him flip 180° and get his guns on me as I passed through his debris cloud.  Needless to say he "won" the engagement.   :headscratch:

Nasty!  I had a bomer clip my engine in a 205 this past weekend...I was just buzzing through minding my own business when he comes raining out of the sky from around 12K and on his way to earth..shot me with his tail gunner while upside down and spiraling..and got my engine oil.  I was able to land it but couldnt believe the luck for him to hit me after someone shot him down above me and him spiraling down on one wing.

Had that engagement with someone from Airborne Kitchen utensils, I think maybe spatchula? few turns I got an edge on a turn fight and took his tail off, he started spraying and I flew past and took my wing off as well.

I thought it was hilarious, back in the day when people lost tails or wings would start spraying all over and I never took notice, some would be still shooting until they crash.

Too bad Fester, you were on a roll too and it was fun to watch.  The best part of that for me was the multiple check 6's you got over range about the bombers sneaking up behind you.

Yep, I sprayed beer once and just LMFAO after the second one.
