= no effect whatsoever on down times ...

it is generally a waste of resources to do a strat run, although worth doing just for fun. its a shame the player hours/effect is so much lower than tactical bombing.

reinstate the zones! :aok

Have you ever timed it, Holmes?  Lets hear you go on record for how long you think OBJ stay down on a field under the typical stop watch (No resupply runs via M3's, etc).  Then, lets hear you go on record for how long OBJ stay down if the factory is down to %75.

Has anyone else timed how bombing the factories effects the respective repair/resupply times???  I cant be the only one.

I am thinking that you have to take down something to 30% to have any effect at all.  Taking it to 50% down does nothing besides adding to your personal bomb score...

no need to time it or guess, the downtime effect only happens once you get a strat under 50% ...

while it is true that 2 skilled B29 pilots can flatten the city, theres still no effect unless you also get a strat down under 50%. so figure 4 skilled pilots to have any meaningful effect on just one strat factory. darbar from 4 sets of buffs heading to HQ will almost certainly get a response from the rocketeers, which realistically means you need to double the buffs (for bomber losses and abandoned runs, those pesky 163s always seem to time their attacks for your drop :furious).

figure 6-8 formations to have a decent effect on 1 or 2 strats then, 8-12 if they cant all precision bomb from >20k.

you need only three, and yes, if you do it this not particular smart way, you may get into trouble ;)

I have escorted a few of these. Since I fly nearly 100% American sorties I am not huge on hunting buffs. Sure, if they are supporting a base take and I am in position to hit them I will, but its sort of like canabalization to me. Now, escorting a strike or a raid is a HUGE amount of fun to me. There are timing issues and it is always a struggle to control a bunch of fighter jocks to stay with the stream instead of following a few bandits to the deck.

One of my most favorite AH moments occurred when I upped a 262 against a large darbar many months ago.

Turns out I stumbled on a DHBG mission (with escorts). I was able to make two passes (killing two -17's) before I had to retire from the fight with what appeared to be 1 damaged engine. After that engine quit on me, I looked over and noticed that my other was smoking as well.

Landed that bad boy dead-stick and hard on the nose wheel.

I sent DHBG a <S> because it was so much fun and they returned it en-mass. Real cool bunch in my opinion.

 :salute Bomber formation dudes.

On a sour note.  Unless, you have selected the proper aircraft to oppose high bomber formations, don't even bother.  Basically, the gunner positions and maneuverabilty differences at high alt, just make most aircraft big plump targets much larger than their ground targets.

My goal would be to make sure there was a lot of missing man formations. Looks like fun to me.
