39th FS P-38 skin
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:50:40 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has ever worked on or submitted a skin representing the 39th FS. If so, I'd like to see it and maybe lobby HTC to get it in the game.

Nevermind.....the search option works wonders

Has anyone ever attempted this one, or have it and just not submitted it? This is the G model...right?

the plane in the picture appears to either be a J or an L (note the deep "chin" under the propeller).  The 39th had given up it's 38's by the time the later models arrived in theater.  As TM said that plane would have been a G or an H historically.   We do have a 39th FS 38G skin in game however.

39th never had J or L models.  They had to give up the 38s to the 475th when it was activated in theater, along with some pilots etc as did the 80th.

The AH 39th FS 38 is Tommy Lynch's P38H.

I'd like to see the John Rogers P38 skin in the game.  Which brings me to the question, was the Jolly Roger also an H model 38 like Lynch's?
Also, has anyone started, or plan to start working on the Jolly Roger skin? Isn't Roger's and Lynch's skins basically the same except for the skull and crossbones added to Roger's bird?

That's an old pic of Lynch's bird - it was updated a few years ago to more accurate panel lines and a more realistic shade of OD.  Tires and wheel rims probably fixed up too.

That is a very cool skin Uptown, nicely done even if it's on the wrong model - instead of the '38J it should be on an early model '38.   Really nice paint wear and chipping on the wings.  It would work well on the G model in AH.   But its basically the same as Lynch's bird save for the noseart and ID numbers.  Shark mouth probably slightly different shape, and without the yellow border.  Can't tell if inside of mouth is painted dark - looks unpainted in the B&W photo.   It just takes too long to get skins into the game though.

And that is what's keeping me from wanting to attempt making one. That's a hellofva lot of work to do, just to have it stored away in a file somewhere for a few years. I was hoping someone out there might of had it stashed away it their files and just waiting to submit it.
Anyway, I'll just have to fly the one 39th skin we have and just pretend it's the ole "Jolly Roger" I guess.  :lol
