Night Flight
« on: April 23, 2012, 02:21:05 PM »
I had the pleasure of leading the Allied forces in the special event, "The Last Bomb", frame #2, and it was an awesome experience for everyone, both allied and axis! It was a night attack on 2 Japanese cities and we were intercepted by enemy Japanese fighters over the "Homeland". I think everyone who flies in this game would enjoy a 1 hour time period each day of complete night flight, and it would add another element to an already great game! Fighter-bombers decking a town or field, wouldn't that be an awesome experience! How about a flight of 36 B-17's or B-24J's, escorted by 12 or 15 fighters? Wow! If that didn't get your "Jelly" spread right, nothing can. Come on Hi Tech, how about it. Not sure how much computer problem it would be, but if you can do it for one of the special events, surely you can do it 2 or 3 nights a week for the MLW arena! Anyway, still the best WW2 flight Sim on line!!!
Blue Skies and wind at my back and wish that for all!!!

what they did before was up the gamma so night would turn into day.  the only ones who played in the "night" were the noobs who didnt know about the gamme adjustment.

I think we should make it an option: those who do not want night fly the arenas as they are, those that do want night squint real hard while flying the arenas as they are.  :bolt:

Some of us liked the cool factor in seeing the tracers at night and didn't resort to adjusting the gamma.

We had night for a while "back in the day". What happened was players logged off in droves. Those that stayed turned their "gamma" adjust way up to make it look like daylight.

HTC has said they will NOT do night time in the mains any more.  The discussion got so heated the last time it came up that I think a couple players got banned due to how they acted pushing for it.

You want night, go to the special events, or create your own arena and turn it on in there. After the "novelty of it wears off.... and it didn't take very long last time... the MAJORITY of the players will want it removed ..... AGAIN

Just my thought :).

PS: As for anything thats "immersion" or slightly tougher than easy..... just spend a few hours in the TA and "help" the guys that just want to know the button that either "makes me take off" "makes me turn tighter" or "lets  me shoot people". Night time is a real nice idea... but as long as it makes things even a little more difficult and/or there is any way around it, people will take it. Humans rarely go for a challenge... those who do usually are considered either genius and/or insane. To be honest, I, to the day, do not know which I am.

No way. Been there done that. Regardless of what anyone says--it sucked. People left whatever arena was dark and went to one with the sun out or logged.

Personally I thought while the idea of it was cool the limits of the game  and the graphics  available made it unworkable. Night is possible. Make a custom arena and set the time to midnight and watch the world beat a path to your door.

This:

A very playable nighttime is something easily done, but takes time to find the right combination of colors and brightness. I've spent lots of time in the Custom Arenas and offline to come up with what I think is a real nice and very playable effect. You will not see it in the Mains because very few players would enjoy it. The best solution is to create a custom arena - you can use ANY terrain in the list (not just MA terrains). Advertise on the BBS and maybe in-game that your arena will be up at such-and-such a time on whatever day you choose.

For like-minded players who would like to experience it, this is the best choice and can be done anytime you want.
