Question. Is the Warthog worth the price? Either way I'd still want one if I wasn't paying for school.

Yes it is. I have had mine since November 2010 and it has been flawless in operation. I wouldn't call it extensive usage but call it moderate to slightly heavy usage and zero problems. I am preparing for some potential problems and general wear and tear on the stick though but the repairs that some have had need of can be done easily as a DIY project and tend to have great results.

I'm using a Microsoft Precision pro from somewhere around 1998 to this day(yeah its an AWIII vet!).  It is a twisty stick, had a decent amount of buttons, plus an "alt" button.  It's starting to show it's age but still works ok for me(at least I think it does, have never used anything else).  Perhaps with a limited budget buying used could be an option?

Saitek Av8r has dual throttles, twisty rudders, view hats, and several other programable buttons.  I got mine a few years back for about $30 at Walmart.  That's just an extra I keep for use with my laptop.  For most of the AH flying, I have a Saitek X45 that I've been using since 2003 with no problems, along with Saitek rudder pedals that I bought to replace my CH pedals which kept having problems.

do you really get improved roll-rate etc. from a higher grade stick? Why? It seems max roll input on a given stick would be equal to all others? :old:

you actually get more if you have pedals.  but the improve rate is only you are actually proficient with whichever stick you get.  you can have top of the line but if you dont know how to use it well, it wont help you get kills.  there's some really good guys that play with a 30$ stick.

I use these to. I have been buying them off e-bay and have like 20 of them. Paid from $7 to $25 for each.
I have been using the same one for a long time now. I guess I just never want to run out of them, lol.
I have a CH Combat Stick that sits in the closet. I prefer the MS
If you were to get one make sure its the USB version with the USB adapter.
The first series was gameport only and cannot use a USB adapter.
