Discovery's Final Flight
« on: April 17, 2012, 05:01:38 PM »
I went to the Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian Air and Space Museum today to watch Discovery OV-103.  Skipped School :D

Here are the few pictures that were worth anything off me and my friend's cell phones.  Sorry I forgot my real camera at home.  :cry

Here is the flyover that went right above us and it happened right before it flew over the mall in DC .  Only my friend got a shot of that as I was much too busy staring.

This pass was a flyover of the runway to check how the wind was acting and there was a bit of a crosswind.  Notice the NASA T-38 to the left of the 747.

These next two are in order as the shuttle Discover approaches runway 1R right before the end of its final flight.  There is a T-38 on the shuttle carrier's right wing.

This comic made me sad.

I imagine they are going to place it in the spot that the Enterprise currently sits.  Is this true? If so, what are they going to do with the Enterprise?

My friend went up to Cocoa and got some good pictures of it departing Florida.

I'm home now I actually thought of the P-38 but ruled it out as there are lots of those in many museums.  Apparently this one has some significance or he just likes rusty beat up stuff.

That P38 was a test bed aircraft, flown by many of the hottest P38 sticks of the day. Best yet, it has never been repainted and wears the same paint it wore during testing.

Can only laugh when you think that the main hub of the space program does not get one of the shuttles.

Some really odd places get one.
