AH "Vet" Charity System
« on: April 22, 2012, 08:14:54 AM »
RE: "Thought about coming back" by Belial

Why doesn't HTC have a sort of donation area, where all players can donate spare paypal money/etc to have people with accounts that are over a certain age or status covered by said money?

They could email those who are given a chance through the system to play again, and if the person replies they get that month free/etc? Or it could be based on a usage system, or something automated?

Thoughts?  :joystick:

If you can't afford $15 you shouldn't be worrying about playing a game. We have enough "charity" in the world. Either work for it, or do with out.

I find it hard to believe Belial couldn't afford it.

We have a charity system, certain people are worth having around like n00fer of the 367th dynamite gang - he's off in canadian police academy and funds have been low - I paid his account for February and some others of the 367th have been chipping in since.

There are very few players I'd throw a subscription to without question.

so it's YOUR fault!

I agree. If a player is having issues his squad would be the first place they should go.

Tight nit squads have that effect, I left the 367th in January but still promised to pay his account when I got my new PC so I could fly with him - and sure enough I did, if any others in the 367th needed help I'd be the first to jump in.

I've been involved with one gentleman that wanted to help out and had the means to do so. I coordinated shipping parts and computers and monitors all over the country. I understand helping people out.

The difference is someone "asking for freebies" just so he can try it out AGAIN.

Some time ago I was not able to continue the subscription I had maintained for almost ten years (R.I.P. perks) and when I posted about it I received offers to pay for my account.  I declined them, but the offers were appreciated.

Anyone care to add to or mold the idea at all?

Not likely much more will be said about it, like it was discussed - If you want to donate to his account, simply call Carrie and tell her you want to pay.

Problem is squads have dedicated members, those members take care of each other, most are not likely to pay someone they don't actively fly with - if they want too simply call Carrie and arrange a double payment.

An open "donation" box would be misused, secondly most people arn't actively open about financial troubles and other things - were here to blow off steam (while getting shot down and frustrated) :)

So your saying HTC would misuse and mis-appropriate such an item?

I don't want to put words in your mouth here, so please correct me if im reading you wrong, thnx.

PS: I Wish to add/clarify that Belial's post was only an *inspiration* for this idea, it was not focused on him specifically.

the administration of such a program would take time away from more important things, like programming, designing new airplanes etc. More to the point any program like this would most likely be abused by people who are just cheap and/or lazy.

Personally I'd prefer giving $15 a month to starving children or actual military vets who are eating out of the can then I would someone who couldnt pay for a silly computer game.

The only "vets" I recognize wore the uniform of the USMC, USArmy, USAF, USN, Coast Guard, or those of our allies.

Not to badmouth your idea. Which comes from a generous heart.
