More control
« on: April 22, 2012, 10:39:57 AM »
I would like to see players able to control more things in their planes. Such as moving the flap lever, or the landing gear. And manually starting the engine. I wish it was a little more like microsoft flight sim.

HTC has already said they wouldn't add things just for the sake of "pushing buttons". If you want to fly a Microsoft flight sim go ahead.

Do you mean a clickable cockpit? That would be slower than pushing buttons and keys and less suitable for combat.

Do you mean like the virtual cockpit Microsoft has? So are you asking for more things to control or just being able to use your mouse to use the levers and buttons?  Pressing G would still toggle the gear, but you could also 'reach' and move the lever in the plane?

Play Arma 2 it's awesome.

Just bought that a few weeks ago.  I didn't realize it was basically a new "Operation Flashpoint."  It's fun, but probably not what he means by control.  If you're looking for aircraft control though, ARMA 2 is not for you.

it is impossible to manually start your engine in a game.  I'll pay your next year's dues if you can prove me wrong.

While I am a relatively "newbie" in the Game (I've actually played off and on for about 3 years (Argent, 3031, and Zexx)) I think adding a click-able cockpit defeats the purpose and intent of the game. While Aces is intended to simulate realistic Flight in Piston engined fighters; the balance between realism, complexity, and instant Action game play would be undermined by adding this feature. It may even handicap the game entirely.

Honestly, (and I probably ill informed about this) many fighters had to be primed by rotating the prop so that the engine would start. Some Early Spitfires were among this case as was the Me-109 and even the Fw-190.This being the case it would add to the complexity of the game by having to initiate a "start up sequence" just to get in the air, and I don't think you can simulate Ground crew starting your prop with out adding a cut scene. ( although I would do it myself if I could do so in game)

This is just my opinion on the subject ( as useless as it might be:P)
Yes there is a Huge learning curve in flying. It starts on Take off and ends on the glide slope for landing. In short The grade arc is the difference you take between being in the sky or in a mountainside.

if anything - cutting engine/engine restart type issues could be modeled better - but what is being suggested would make th game a lot harder to play.  And personally i think its just fine as it is.

I think one of the problems with this is everyone has interpreted "more control" differently.

In that case let me simplify it. All of your commands would still have keyboard shortcuts. However just as in FSX you would have the option to use the mouse in conjunction with the shortcuts. Im not suggesting a full startup, i would however like the option to be able to throw a few switches now and again. I just feel HTC could use a little more in the realism department. I realize we already have one of the most realistic fliht models for this type of game but i would like to see the ability for more user interface.
