I'm not so sure the SDKfz 234/2 "Puma" would be any more of a threat than the M8 Greyhound. The Puma maxes out at 42mph, has 30mm of armor of front, and its 50mm KwK39 L/60 can penetrate 57mm of armor at 500 yards and 44mm of armor at 1000 yards. While it does have a better main gun than the M8, it really isnt any more of a threat. When an M8 is shooting at you from the flank does anyone currently ignore it? Other than the 50mm main gun it has a co-axial MG, no pintle or hull MG. I think it would be almost a wash with regards to impact to AH game play.
I'd rather see more EW tanks, and maybe some SPG's for long range arty work (similar to land mode with naval guns).
The
source I use (has been very reliable thus far) states that the 50mm L'60 is capable of ~58mm of penetration at 30 degrees slope at 500m, and 45mm of penetration at 30 degrees slope at 1000m.
Even just at line of sight thickness (less than the effective thickness), we get 68mm of penetration and 51mm of penetration respectivly.
With PzGr. 40 (APCR), we're seeing numbers like 130mm penetration at 30 degrees slope at 100m, and 72mm penetration at 30 degrees slope at 500m.
Again, at just LOS thickness, we have 150mm and 83mm respectivly.
Now, lets just stop and think for a second. 150mm of penetration. Thats enough to penetrate
the front of any tank in the game but the Tiger II, and even the Tiger II's gun mantle.
Side armor is only about what, 60mm on average including the rarer more heavily armored tanks like the Tiger I and II? This means that the Puma can engage targets from the sides at ranges upto about 1200m if the charts I'm using are accurate.
Considering that most targets are going to be Panzer IV's and M4's, with only about 30mm of armor on the side, that range is increased to 1500 yds
