Outmatched at every turn.
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:44:31 PM »
First let me start by saying this is not a post to flame or attack anyone, the only intention is to see who yall think are pilots that found the razors edge in a plane. Im talking about the guys that when you manage to catch alone in the MA or in a duel, seem to know the perfect move at every turn. Its only happend a handful of times in the several years ive been playingbbut it amazes me everytime.

My recent encounter with Alphamega (sry if its mispelled) in his p38 is actually the only one in recent memory. My first death came as i attempted to pick him in a 109g2. He forced the overshoot perfectly and i turned to run and was gunned down by a pony flying around.  This wasnt the outmatched i am recalling but it motovated me to hunt down the 38 in revenge ;).
So i upped a spixteen (noob plane i know but when i want revenge i up easy planes lol. I caught him co alt 1v1 over the water at about 5 k with slightly more speed and pursued him for about 1/4 a sector. As i caught him i expected the overshoot so i went over the top and for the next 5 mins we fought through sciccors and every move i could think of where a spixteen would have advantage. Yet no matter the move, even when i anticipated the reaction, my guns were just slightly off solution. Finnaly i went aggresive and went pure vertical trying to stall an whip the nose around quick, hoping to get a brief shot off. To my surpise , just as my nose came down i was sawed n half by a quick burst from him. I couldnt believe how at every turn he had that perfect position to slowly gain the advantage. Needless to say i avoided 38s from his side the rest of the night.
Just additional info he was all around courteous to my humilitating defeat so a big <S> his way.

Just wanted to see everyones opinions of pilots that are at this level so i can perhaps study films with and against them.

If they're better than me, I try to DA them. There, I can see/ask what I did wrong or just figure out their style after a few matches and turn the tables on them. If I run into a 1v1 in the MA and lose, I just go "meh" and move on (of course after all the <S>, good fight, and all that). Same if I win a 1v1, just go "meh, that was fun", and move on.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

My CO and XO have a habit of beating me mercilessly in every 1v1, only time I even get a shot is when they get lazy  :bhead  :furious

The P38 is not going to stick with any Spitfire in a slow turn.  The good P38 guys can get it to snap roll very well and keep the scissors and rolling scissors alive for a long time.

Once I get in to a 1v1 vs a P38 player and I can tell her knows what he is doing, I attempt to get the speed as slow as possible if I know I can out turn him.  As soon as I see them dip that wing in quick fasion, I know I have my work cut out for me.

stick to a plane, learn its strengh, duel with it, MA with it...training training

Eventually you will become good in that plane, and all these mind games will be solved without thinking one bit. Rome wasn't built in one day  :old:

Or you can become a skill less pick tard like me :P Here is a film http://mapage.noos.fr/rsm/P51Dawesome.zip

Actually, I think it might be a lead turn vs lag pursuit issue.
If you try for a gun solution in a turnfight that up close and personal, youll have to turn inside your opponents turn (for lead, obviously)... in doing that, you will loose angle and/or E. Especially in a rolling scissor, I found it best to just keep my patience, my nose on the enemies *tail) (lagging) and try not to mess up first ;). One of you is going to make a tiny mistake eventually... its all about not being the first in doing so.

Sometimes your just outmatched though ;).

I had a fun fight with 1oldcoot last night, he was in the P47-m and I in the Yak-t, he had alt on me bu I fly the M a lot and have a good idea how it flies, so I start working it down knowing I can force him to overshoot strait down, this works 3 times but he knows or atleast figures out what I am trying to do to him and climbs out and away every time, I have to get a perfect Solution because of my single cannon where as I know he has tons of ammo and can kill me easily with a good burst, he also has multiple chances were I have only a few ( not much ammo)
If I can work him down to the deck I have a better chance as well!
It was a fun , good fight, I did lose eventually , but I expected that it wouldn't be an easy kill after the second dive, I could have cut and run but don't get to fight against the big jug all that much and really wanted to see what it was like being on the other side of it with a good pilot .
Later I think I had him pinned down in my own jug but others came along and got into our fight, I don't fault them but it is fun to get into a 1v1 and get to finish it without interference , that's why I always ask I'd someone needs help in one before I dive into the fight!
<<S>> 1oldcoot!
Flying since tour 71.

The guys who kill in the P38s have mastered the post stall hammerhead turn who's rate of rotation exceeds the non-stalled turn rate of most every plane here.

I've only run into a couple here who can do it but you can recognize them when it looks like hand of god has just grabbed them and spun them 180 degrees.
