Good AT&T U-Verse thread....
« on: May 02, 2012, 05:10:05 PM »
I had put this off for a long time due to horror stories but last weekend I had it installed.

Out with the medium package DSL and Dish Network Satellite.  In with the new system including medium internet speed.

So far I'm thrilled with it, no TV outage during the lightning storm the other night and the internet, which would get severely bogged down during 6-8PM and cause occasional drops in AH is gone.  Overall speed is much better too.

And saving 50 bucks a month for the first year doesn't suck either. (then it goes to same price I was paying)

Just figured I'd throw it out there in case anyone was on the fence.

I wish I could dump Time Warner and go with U-Verse but sadly AT&T only offers cable U-Verse and no internet yet in my area.  Have to wait at least another year for it.

In our area, there is talk of a class action lawsuit over how poor UVerse is (I think it is more to do with the older Motorola decoders AT&T has been supplying here).  I have seen it and the picture quality looks like something from the 50's over an antennae.  It also degrades when you download anything over the Internet connection (shared bandwidth?).  The price is outrageous ($180.00/month).  The support is pathetic.  I wanted to ask about the decoder, and could not get anyone at AT&T that could talk about it.  Three hours I will never get back.

It was an option, in the apartment complex we moved into, but the price immediately convinced me to search for other solutions.  I ended up with DiSH and Clear wireless (no contract, which was important as we are not going to be in the apartment long).  Combined price ended up much cheaper than AT&T.  With the new dish they installed I noticed I am not loosing signal anymore during heavy rains (maybe a fluke?).

180 per month....good lord Skuzzy! Also my picture isn't anywhere near the quality you are talking about and I don't lose any bandwidth at all when playing games online or downloading anything the picture doesn't degrade. Now the customer service is typical AT&T but the techs I have had the chance to speak with due to outages and such have all been top notch.

I really like uverse tv, mainly because of the dvr's. After a year I just got rid of the internet though, horrible packet loss. I talked to all kinds of tech's had three guys out to the house, the last one seemed to know his stuff. After about an hour of trace outs and phone calls to his buddies he identified it as a problem in a Chicago switch, he called about a week latter very apologetic and said he took it up as far as possible and was told that the hardware was not scheduled for upgrade in the near future.

I know other guys in the Detroit area that are in to first person shooters that have the same problem.

Have been on cable for the last four days and have not had anyone fly away from a 30mm hit yet, used to happen on a fairly regular basis with uverse.

The quality of Internet service is always going to vary, based upon the region you are located in.

Reschke, are you saying $180.00/month is high?  That is the base price for UVerse where I am.  It only goes up from there.  If you opt for all the HD channels, and premium sports package, along with the typical HBO, Showtime premiums it can get as high as $310/month.

I think the pricing is outrageous myself, but when you are the only game in town, I guess you can charge what you want.

Yep $180 per month is outrageous. I don't pay anywhere near that for the Uverse with the U300 package; going to drop it down further since I don't watch half the crap on there anyway; and the fastest bandwidth they allow here in Birmingham. I am considering leaving Uverse for a significant package deal with Charter here in town but I have to compare the services I get with Uverse against Charter to see what the differences might be.

I think I pay close to $100 per month for my total television and internet package but I have been in their ear enough over the last two years regarding technical issues and outages due to their fault that my bill is low to keep the squeaky wheel from making noise.

Base price in Cleveland stars at 79.00.  That's 130 channels and 3MB internet.  I got the 250 channel package and best internet for 125.00.  No movie channels, but currently have them all free for 3 months.

Our base package only has a 1Mb/s Internet, with a data cap limit per month.  I cannot recall what the limit was.  Cannot recall the number of channels.  It was less than the DiSH package we currently have.  Our DiSH package is around $90/month.  I have some premium channels in there.

Even if AT&T was a reasonable price with good service, I could not use them due to the length of the contract.  Right now, month to month is what I need until we move.

So, how much extra was 'The Mayonnaise Channel' or did that come with the base package?  :bolt:
