For discussion:

Are most of you getting hit/pinged/destroyed at 900+? Hitting buffs at 1100+?

I am not 100% sure but I am assuming the counter is reflecting yards, not feet.

Thoughts? Comments?

No kills at those distances, but I have been hit and lost pieces from as far as D 1.2 from the spray and pray cannon weenies flying the F4U-1C-leading to death shortly afterwards. While I don`t doubt the ballistics model in regards to killing power of cannon at those distances,I don`t think it should be easy to actually hit from that far away. IMO it takes a lot away from the game to be able to hit from such a long distance, keeping in mind most kills in WW II were close range shots.

Very seldom have I ever seen anything killed at that distance.

As Pyro and HT pointed out, film it, they haven't received any film showing a D1.0 kill (last they reported on this BB).

I've personally got pinged at D1.1, but it did no damage.

Someone else pointed out in a thread on this subject about the Sabre ace that killed a mig from 5000 feet(that would be D1.6 or thereabouts in AH) with 6/.50 cal. It was a true story, and he had the gun footage to prove it.

I've had a few kills from almost 1000 yards, shooting off a tail or engine with the 20mm cannons of the 109 or 190.

FYI: The germans sometimes used self-exploding rounds in their cannons and MGs. For example, some types of MG-151/20 explosive rounds self detonated at 700 meters, about 800yards.

Let's beat this dead horse one more time!

Check out the "Guns Too Strong" thread, cut out your favorite parts of the argument and repost in here. Saves a bunch of time.

Yep, it's more difficult to hit in WB for LOTS of reasons. Damage appears reduced for playbalance as well. So,if you like that modeling, well, that's an example of the free enterprise system, isn't it?

Pay your money and take your choice!

I feel satisfied with the HTC modeling. You can hit at 1k but it's rare to kill a previously undamaged aircraft at long range. Seems right to me.

As far as getting pinged from D10+, there may be a lag factor there, you're probably d8 or so on the other guys FE.

Regarding German exploding rounds, I don't think the round exploding at 800 yards was expected to cause damage, but was assumed to have missed the target and was detonating for the safety of those down below.

LOL!

I just got into the game so 'xcuse me for beating the dead horse   I wasnt aware it was already discussed.

Being an AH newbie, I was curious to see if others had seen similar results. I am not complaining about the modeling, enjoying watching the hits at 980+

I have a film of me killing a buff from d10/d9 the hit sprites start at d12 and the wings don't come off till d9.  I will be happy to post the film or have one of you who knows how do it (since I am not sure I know how). I don't think it proves anything except that in rare cases it can be done.  I expended 2/3 of my ammo load to do it so it is NOT a recommended way to bring down a buff.
