Short Story
« on: May 06, 2012, 04:11:16 AM »
The loud hum echoed through the sky as the B17's raced through the sky. Their shiny metal glistening form the sun at 15000 ft in the cold air of mid December. Their target was an airplane factory in Berlin and the flight lead was 2nd Lieutenant Johnson. Suddenly from almost out of the blue came a loud screech over the radio.
"ENEMY 109's SPOTTED! LOW EIGHT!" Yelled a tail gunner from the rear bomber Graceful Drop. Johnson's plane Bombs Away was in lead position and was usually the one target the most. He sighed and spoke over his radio calmly.
"Ok gents, lets get this 109 off us if he tries anything." The 109 swerved and unleashed doom upon anything in front of its nose cannon 20mm. It ripped into the rear bomber Graceful Drop flaming an engine and turning the vertical stab into Swiss cheese. The bomber shuddered and then received another burst and went rolling out of formation into a deadly spin.
"Hel... we.... ing.... die! B... out!." Static filled everyone's headset as they watched the bomber disappear before the clouds. The 109 then found its new target. The lead plane, Bombs Away was now in its path. The 109 came under the bomber and received a full burst from the ball turret gunner from Bombs Away. The 109 shuddered pulled up and let loose a burst of cannon and machine gun fire into Bombs Away and flamed out and spun out of control into the bomber below and to the left of Bombs Away. The 109 tore through the middle of the bomber and sent it spiraling out of control, then half a body flew out of the opening wearing an USA crewman bomber jacket. The 109 was completely destroyed and only parts of the fuselage were falling to the earth in a blaze of hell.Bombs Away was now smoking from its far right engine and sputtering, sending oil flying into the brisk sky. Thats when  the engine completely stalled and gave out leaving Bombs Away with only three engines.
"Boys we just may have caught the one today."

Too rushed.  Be more descriptive.  Character development is key.

I'd add proof read or better yet have someone else proof read.       Nose cannon 20mm just kind of stuck out to me but then I'm no author so what the HE double hockey sticks to I know....... :o
