Steam
« on: May 10, 2012, 03:39:28 PM »
Ok, well I have never had a game that required STEAM, but I really want to play Skyrim.  So about STEAM?

Do I have to be online to play a single-player game?  Does it really cause issues with computers?

Pro's?  Cons?

I have read alot of good and bad things about it.  Just trying to decide if its something I want to hassle with.

What about the other questions?

Can I play a game even if my computer isnt hooked up to the internet?

Say my laptop for instance.  I have to travel for work at times and I like to play games on my laptop while traveling.

I've never had any problems with steam. You can use it offline too.

Once you install it, you can run Steam in "offline" mode, so yes, you can play even though you aren't hooked to the internet.

My only complaint about Steam is piss-poor customer service (bots, 30 days email replies, that kind of stuff). But only once in the years that I've been using Steam have I had to use their customer service (which was fixed later by an EA customer service instead). They have sales almost every week and you can get as much as 33-75% off. Otherwise, no complaints.

I was wary of Steam at first, but now it's just another program I use regularly. :aok  Hasn't failed me yet.  They had a nice sale on Sanctum not too long ago, which I bought. :D  And they have quite a few games to boot. :x

its like a virus, makes 20-40 http sessions when its not even doin anything. I bought my first steam game recently and dont see the point at all. if you can get a non-steam version of the game you want, do it, steam adds nothing useful. ymmv :)

If you count 75% discount useless. I only buy on holidays and weekends when the deals are good.

I have had steam for 6 months or so, and no issues. IF I'm not using it, I end the process. Many good deals, and if it wasnt for a part time job not paying much, I would have a lot more then 4 games on my account. 1 of which was a gift, 2 were free and Skyrim I paid for myself.
