My system is, sadly, far from beefy.  AMD Athlon 64 4400 X2, 2gb memory, WinXP Pro and a 512mb nVidia card that cost me $1000 in Dec. 2010.

Yep.  That's roughly what my previous system was.  I 'd be shutting steam downwhen I was AHing  on that one if it were me.

I have.  It makes literally no difference in my frame rate.

It wouldn't likely make much difference, it's just the principle of it. ;)

Ok, well I have never had a game that required STEAM, but I really want to play Skyrim.  So about STEAM?

Do I have to be online to play a single-player game?  Does it really cause issues with computers?

Pro's?  Cons?

I have read alot of good and bad things about it.  Just trying to decide if its something I want to hassle with.
its great i have every game i own on it. i can stream music from there great web browser. its awesmoe

you guys don't use steam overlay with aces high? I tought some big squads used it, might be helpfull even.
Most of the times when I'm in a long sortie I open the overlay to check the BBS forums, while I can easly see what's going on in game and can even fly the plane if needed to avoid a hill or something
i use it for everygame. hell even minecraft its great

Now that all the fanbios have spoken, SoftICE Steam and see what it's really doing.

And then write about how great it is that we have to seclude our gaming rigs from our home lans :(

Why would there be any need for that?

 :old:

FYI, dismissing everyone who uses steam or likes it as a "fanboi" pretty much automatically negates anything you have to say on the subject.  I certainly am no fanboi of steam and think most of those launcher portals are bloated marketing tricks, however they have their uses and since a couple of games I play pretty much require steam just to run, that means I use steam.  And it has not wrecked my computer, nor has my computer or network become infested with malware as a result of using steam.

Your assertion that this makes me and everyone else who uses steam a fanboi means you earn a spot on my ignore list no matter how right you might be.

Open the Library Tab, click on "ADD A GAME..." and then click on "add non steam game" and then just look for the game's .exe in the list and select it.
To launch via steam select the game from the library instead of your regular way of launching, or use a steam shortcut.

Why would you? Aces High has it's own desktop icon to click!

You can use the steam overlay to surf the net without alt tabbing out during a climbout or long flight.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

This.

But anyway, even adding to, and launching from steam, doesn't work for me. Which is an unconvenience, Alt Tab-ing is a pain.
