Planes and Targeting Under 400
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:24:19 AM »
Hello,

What planes would you say are among the best at easily targeting (in your site) a plane under 400?

To clarify, I am looking for the opposite planes where you have to fire when the plane is below the front cowling!  :(

Be default it seems most twin engine fighters can target planes well in this range.  I say under 400 as most planes can lead a target into a firing stream at 500-800.  My context is 400 or less.  Of course if it is like 200 then BAM that plane is right in front of you no matter what.  So 200-400 seems to be the exact context of my question.

Thanks for your feedback,

Slade  :salute

You mean planes that have a good forward view? Like you said, twin engine planes (110, Mossie, P38) all have good fwd views because you see easily over the nose by pressing Page Up.

Tempest, Typhoon, P40, A6M, Ki-61, Ki-84, P51, P47, F4Us, are also capable of moving rather high in their seat to see over the nose.

IMO, 110, Mossie, Tempest/Typh, and A6M has the best fwd views.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Yes

Thanks for your comments.  I find some birds have a nice forward view but structural components (bars, frames etc.) get in the way at the very worst moment!

Forgot the FM2 and the Hellcat - outstanding over the nose views.

Indeed. Basically, 109s, 190s, Spitfires (to a lesser extent), N1K, Yaks, LAs, and C202/5s have very limited "Page Up" views. Either you can't move up too much to see a noticeable difference or the trajectory of the bullets drop too fast so that even if you do see over the nose clearly, you still can't see where your rounds are going.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
