The sun is probably the best addition in the recent past. You can literally lose aircraft in it, where before it was just annoying and unrealistic.

While I'm sure Zoney believes I enjoy wallowing in misery, I do still have fun with this game. I'm just one of those guys that tell it like it is. I don't see any reason to "sugar coat" anything. The OP ask for some opinions and I gave mine.

There is a lot that is .... shall we say, no longer "good" with the game.

The game itself has made great strides. The sun is far better than it was, more of the planes have been updated to the newer 3D model and look great, a number of new versions of planes have been added as well as new planes. New GVs have been added and while some don't like it, the new drive train for the GV have made it easier for newbies to jump in a play even with out a stick. We have a couple new maps (to the OP any way), a WWI arena with 4 planes, as well as the ability to create and run our own little arenas. Yes I would say the game it self has made great strides and seems to be continuing along that path as seen by the release of the pictures of the new JU.

Game PLAY on the other hand has gone steadily down hill and doesn't look to be turning back "up hill" any time soon. In today's game play style of "spawn in, running around emptying your clip until you get blasted and repeat until someone captures the flag" skill is no longer a requirement for most players. Yes there are those that do train and try to get better, as well as those that like many of us "old timers" pretend we are pilots in WWII, but those types of players are now the minority to the "gamer" types that spend more time looking for short cuts than they do learning how to get better.

So KEV, come on back and test the waters yourself. It's only $15 (still   ) Check out the new toys. As posted above there is still fun to be had, tho it's a bit harder to find.

When you START a mission - YOU lead it. YOU tell people where to drop, where to go and what to do! 


Hell - create a big dar bar - call your mission out over 200.

This is a really bad qualifier for this.  Because with better graphics comes larger size.  At any rate size shouldn't be a concern when you can get terabytes on the cheap.


That said, I have to agree you really can't call AH's graphics 'EPIC' but they are decent enough, particularly in detail of the aircraft models.  The terrain graphics on the other hand, while generally improved over time, aren't really competitive with other examples I've seen lately.  Although, they are probably held back to some extent by the legacy map system that been relatively unchanged for years.

I too have pondered coming back to this game but I can't justify the expense with all the free to play/pay to win gaming that is available these days, not to mention other gaming expenses (Diablo 3 anyone).

You mean games that have a hit bar for tanks and aircraft? yeah Free games are fun and all until you realize they appeal to people who got rejected from Aces High.

For a small download it is fantastic, those who complain about the game are silly

Jayro for example does Ad Hoc missions which are very good

 How much is subscriptions i forget about 20 pennies a day

I'm same timezone is you give or take couple hours and just returned after two year gap. Nothing significant has changed to improve things strat wise I can think of, unfortuantely I think evening numbers our time zone are worse. Seems to be average only 50 or so online which makes for a very long and quiet night, especially when you consider how many of those might be in a GV war.

Graphics wise pretty much looks same apart from new textures and added clutter.

AKAK as far as 272mb, what's the point of that when most here are probably downloading GB's of stuff over broadband connections. I think very few would still be restricted to dial-ups which was the old reason for keeping the MB low and thats going back 10 years.

I dont think anyone would complain if the download was larger and the graphics were vastly improved. I for one love immersion into a game, and this only happens when dog fighting somtimes. It would be nice to have some puffy cotton ball like clouds to bust through and hide in, etc. My point is simply that for 15 bucks a month the world is kind of an eye sore, the planes are semi decent. Still game play is very fun which is why i stay.

I look forward to seeing how it works out for you.   I tried to return but just never could get the energy going again like we used to have. 

I think the key to having a successful return will be finding old friends.   when I came back the squad basically had disbanded and I couldn't find enough critical mass old buddies to fly and keep it fun.   Hard to be on together.
