That looks incredible.  Since Elk is so lean, you might want to begin with a little extra oil, or some bacon grease.

I'll make sure I do. thanks for the heads up.

Three years ago my wife had a series of strokes and the doctors said to cut back on red meat in her diet. I mentioned Elk as an alternative and they said basically eat as much as you want (within reason of course) due to the leanness and no growth hormones and other added chemicals present. Thats partly why I hunt them.

Well here is my Elk pie!!

plenty of extra lean elk meat
3 russet potatoes
1 tray of mushrooms
1/2 onion
plenty of random seasonings

cooked on the stove for 30 minutes, then on to the slow cooker for 2.5 hours. Chilled, then put into the pie pan and baked at 350 degree convection oven for 45 minutes. now its time to try it!!

Thanks JimmyC for the motivation!

Yes from the photo its a kind if Bear with antlers :old:

Did you despatch said beast yourself with your trusty firearm?

The less Elk like Bears the better in my opinion, they should be in pies where they belong.

I would partake in pie making but it involves using kitchen utensils and appliances :old:
