Next Scenario Announcement
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:17:13 PM »

It is November, 1944. The US 8th Air Force is exerting itself to its limits, sending enormous waves of escorted heavy bombers into Germany for wide-ranging strikes in an attempt to bring Germany
to its knees. However, General Galland has gathered Luftwaffe resources and is focusing its remaining might, which is substantial. His goal is to inflict horrific losses upon the 8th Air Force,
preferably enough to crack its resolve. His goal is to deliver “Der Grosse Schlag” -- The Great Blow.

This scenario will pit 8th Air Force P-51D’s, P-51B’s, P-47D-25’s, P-38J’s, B-24J’s, and B-17G’s against Luftwaffe Bf 109K-4’s, Bf 109G-14’s, FW 190D-9’s, and FW 190A-8’s. The US will have strategic
targets to destroy, and the Luftwaffe will do all it can to take down the enemy fighters and bombers. This is a battle for supremacy in the skies over Germany.
Fighter pilots get two lives each frame, bomber pilots get one life and formations each frame, and there will be six frames and no coordination frame.

This will be a Saturday Afternoon Event with wheels in the well at 3:00pm Eastern.

October 6, 2012: Frame 1
October 13, 2012: Frame 2
October 20, 2012: Frame 3
October 27, 2012: Frame 4
November 3, 2012: Frame 5
November 10, 2012: Frame 6

Luftwaffe Command Team is ROC as CO and Brooke as XO.
8th Air Force Command Team is Fencer as CO and Corkyjr as XO.
Soulyss will handle setup and running the event.

If anything, BoG was a partial remake of DGS.

Hoping so.  We are taking a bit of a different path on this one.

The COs and XOs all have experience going back to the mid 90's in event design and leadership.
We are putting Months between the announcement and the event for ample time to build teams, train, train some more, immerse in the history of the period and fine tune issues.
We are going for a full blown old school event.  I haven't CO'd an event since 2005 where Brooke and I ran Team Zulu on the original Coral Sea.
I am greatly looking forward to this.

Registration will open later, but both sides are actively recruiting now.  Give me or Brooke a PM if you are interested in the Axis side, we have already began the team building efforts, and the forums are already available.  This is going to be a long build up, we are going into a major conflict and it should be a very hard fought battle for both sides.

Nothing clever here.  Please, move along.

I feel...like I've been here before. :D

I'm not a good fighter pilot, but I want to fly Axis. That's a bit of an issue to debate in my head.

The bombers will be escorted! :)

That is a rarity these days. :p

Last time I flew B-24s, and as I remember they were a bit heroic...as in bravely blast through to score points before turning into scrap. :D I'm curious about the other side's experience and not sure I want to put forth the effort of GLing bombers in such a coordinated style. I'm more used to the unescorted-ninja style. But, then again, there's a long time to decide.

I guess I could dust off the old PSD templates here and there... Seems they might be useful again.

This isn't about 'points'.

This is about getting as close as we can in a computer game to the airwar over Germany in the Fall of 1944.

That all depends on who you're talking to. :)
It's a lot more fun to break through than say, "well, there's enemies over there, guess we better go home."

I'm agreeing with you :)

My point is we're going to do it 8th AF style, with fighters escorting the buffs.  It's not the Fall of 43 with 60 bombers going down over Schweinfurt.  It's the Fall of 44 and we're going deep! :)

Nothing wrong at all with flying Luftwaffe.  If you do, I hope that at some point in it, when you spot the mass of bombers against the clouds and the dots that are their escorts, you imagine just for a second what it was like being a 21 year old German pilot staring down at that sight for real.

And if you fly buffs I hope that as the flak bursts around you and the call of fighters comes through your head phones, you imagine what it was like to be a 21 year old bomber commander, responsible for his crew and getting the bombs on target.

That and it's gotta be fun :)

Best I can do on short notice.
