Changeup is going to make me blush lol.  Everything I do is just smoke, mirrors, and misdirection :D  I've always wanted my own shade account though  :lol. Thanks for the compliments though, albeit I think you are over rating me.  Widewing and Optiker have a lot to do with where I'm at today.

well sorry for cut and paste from wikipedia but they are pretty accurate in this case.

Skil is a brand of power handtools produced by Robert Bosch GmbH. The line traces its heritage to the invention of the portable circular saw, marketed as a Skilsaw. The Model 77 which evolved from it set the industry standard for handheld worm-and-drive circular saws and remains in production almost unchanged today. In an example of a generalized trademark, portable circular saws are often still called Skilsaws or Skil saws.

Skil products include circular saws, cordless drill/drivers, cordless screw drivers, cordless tackers, cordless sealant guns, belt sanders, random orbit sanders, multi-sanders, angle grinders, hammers, drills, mixers, jig saws, lasers and measuring tools, reciprocating saws, routers, and planers.

and here's their home page.

Skill is landing my Cessna 170 in a 30kt crosswind and still being able to use the plane after it came to a stop.

Skills? Nah.

Luck? Yes.

 :aok :D

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Skill is:
giving up the advantage, fighting the opponents fight but still winning.

Or...

Isn't it a type of skill to never giving up the advantage, and never letting the opponents fight their fight? :joystick:

Yes, it is.
Of course, it doesn't necessarily displays supreme ACM skill, but more SA and battle management skills. Quite a number of guys end up in a sea of red cons and claim it's because they are "having balls"... while in fact it's just because their SA ends at icon range. Of course, there are others that do not really care, even though they can... but imho those are quite rare ;)

In the and, a players 'profile' is just being made up of a myriad of sub skillsets. Some are more recognised than others. Some guys prevail because of their ultimate ACM skills, some because they can read the map. Personal preferences, individual approach to this game and actual 'skill' are a conglomerate.

Skill is over-rated IMHO, those who always play to their strengths in regards to their plane and their opponents plane exhibit nothing more than "REPITITION"

Those who beat you with creativity and in different ways you never expect are the ones with SKILL, sadly their are but a mere handful of these folks left!  :(

There are plenty of super heros who repeat the "to dos" and "don't dos" to the point of perfection and boredome  :rofl :rofl, these folks think themselves to be skilled, The ones who really are skilled and creative think these folks boring and sad!

No matter how long it may take, If you play mario brothers long enough you will be skilled and able to beat it, or have all you learned "thru endless hours" of play been nothing more than timing and repitition? I think the answer is obvious  :aok

dweebs don't have skill. they just get dweebier.

and you are all dweebs.

Fester,
I have always admired your abilities in the game and even making terrains and skins

but I disagree with everything you posted above, that I have quoted...........

5 or 6 years ago I let you keep your Energy & alt in the DA Arena and  let you continously smack my arse to the dirt and I never raised any cain about it.......... fast forward maybe 1 to 3 years.......... You got all shuck up and in a "FESTER" because you could not bring it the same and you huffed and puffed and logged out of koth after 4 or 5 rounds........

we all have good days, and we all have bad....... always has been like that  always will  be!

I'll be your huckleberry ( when I get back from my Daughters situation out here )

mind you, this is in all good fun........... no animosity between us......  just some good ol fashion down and out dueling

Cheers

No...   ...this list is not a jab ant ANYONE!!!  These are some of the things that have gotten me killed.  As you can tell, I have no skill (well, not much skill).

 :devil

1.  Knowing how to HO without dying.
2.  Knowing how to pick.
3.  Knowing how to turn fight.
4.  Knowing how to convince (on channel 200) the guy you are fighting they are doing it wrong and get them to come back and fight the wrong fight in the plane they are in.
5.  Knowing how a map works (which bases to take and in what order).
6.  Knowing the plane you are in and the plane you are up against.
7.  Knowing how to score kills against superior numbers and somehow land them there kills.
8.  Knowing how to kill GVs for air or land (or from the 8 inch guns near a beach).
9.  Knowing the concept of the game (play your way and have fun doing it).
10. Knowing how to bomb manually (Most FSOs and AvA).
11. Knowing how to shut down any size airfield, white flag the town, and get troops out...   ...all in one pass.
12. Knowing how to fight a 5 to 10 minute white knuckle, sweaty dog fight, and win or lose, salute your opponent regardless of the outcome, then review the film (win or lose) to see how you can improve.

There are many perceptions of skill in this game.  I hope I identified some of them.

I don't want to hihack the thread, but as an example...   It is always funny to me to see someone that got killed by someone elses HO, call out the HO person as a no skill person, even if that HO person is still flying and the complainer is in the tower.  HOing is part of the game (unfortunately), it will never go away.  I try to never HO on the first 3 merges unless I am WAY outnumbered.  I sometimes line up like I am going to HO so I can see how to avoid getting hit from it.  The simple fact is, if you can HO someone and live through it without damaging your plane, that is skill.  If you HO ram, then that (in my mind) is no skill.  But, if I get HO rammed while defending, I am assuming I am close to troops and that was a last ditch effort to keep me from getting close to their troops.  In that scenario, it would make sense.

Anyways, that is my 2 cents.

Skill is simply defined in my book as the ability to land 6 kills while smacking down hotwings with ranch sauce AND not getting it all over the keyboard.......

skill is being at an enemy base just in time to catch a bad guy taking off.  instead of shooting him down, do a fly-by underneath him and watching him freak out because he never saw you coming. yes, i die in the process, but is sure is fun to do!

anyone can shoot some else down, especially on climb out. does it take any skill? no, not really. it takes more skill to club a baby seal. flying without caring about score, that's skill.

there are many aspects of the game. there are many truly skilled players in this game. but its all about having fun. anybody can ho! even i can do it, but the skill is being able to get on his 6, after being disadvantaged. not many players can do that. those people are the truly skilled players.

I play this game on an old computer with and old GForce 8400 card with a frame rate in the teens with all my graphics off. I can't tell when I am close to the ground and the water is even worse for me. If I am near to many other planes I get screen freeze. Skill has nothing to do with it for me it is pure luck in my case. Until I win the lottery and buy a new computer this is as good as I am going to be lol.
