Ultimate shot! Il2-37mm vs Tiger2 40mm roof
« on: May 29, 2012, 02:57:33 PM »
I have been trying to take out a Tiger2 with 37mm il2 guns for a while now. I have wounded many of them but they seemed to just absorb my entire clip and it was difficult to get a 0 deflection angle on their roof armor.

I finally got one today... Akamixer was in his tiger 2 climbing up a somewhat steep hill to flank some friendly ground vehicles.

I saw the angle he was at and lined up on him so I had near perfect 90 degree angle on his roof and funneled every round I could into his turret roof...

Turret smoking first pass after a near perfect tracking shot funneling about 15 rounds into his turret roof it seemed.

at this point he stopped moving contemplating whether to run back to his base (they ussually get back to base before I can finish them).

He hesitated a moment and seemed to be trying to rotate to run back to base but I was already lined up on his turet with a second perfect angle and funneled everything into his turret again...

BOOM! Tiger 2 destroyed!!

the lamentations were rather epic.

Would it be a bad thing if there were screenshots of said lamentations?   :devil

Knowing fester's abilities,  pics should not be needed..... Period

Sounded like you had a helluva strike there, Cit

I don't think anyone is doubting the veracity of his claims, folks just want pics so they can share more thoroughly in the awesomeness.

I was on and eventually detuned 200,   there was some choice banter about for sure tho!!!
good job on the kill  I know I would be VERY unhappy to be the first to lose a Tiger 2 in that manor,, that's why I rarely take it off base!
Flying since tour 71.

Have you tried to detract them?   I done it a few times in the D-25.

I suspect the new Stuka will fair better against the Tiger-ll. Ive been flying some tests and been getting much better angles on dives then I can with the gelded IL2. The High Vel Hartkernmunition ammo should make short work of its top plate but your only going to get a few shots at that angle.

I dunno it took at least 30 rounds in two passes with most of them hitting the top of the turret from a near perfect right angle to bring that tiger2 pillbox down. I don't think I could get that angle without the tiger2 sitting on a steep angled hill like it was... not without augering in. perhaps ju87 will be able to vert shoot better on the super thick monster tanks.

but with a third the ammo of the il2 and questionably better or worse cannons I am not sure how the ju87g will stack up. the il2 will likely still be king unless ju87 cannons are amazingly better.

I have used rockets to detrack a tiger2  before but this one was so loaded up with gv supplies that it was pretty much futile trying to kill the tiger2 as it can not be one shot with 37mm and simply repairs once you smoke its turret or detrack it.

its rare to catch a tiger2 not concrete sitting surrounded by gobs of supplies most of the time.

BK 3,7 more closely resembles the A-10 ballistics of today. While the NS-37 had an impressive all around performance for WW-2 it lack the penetrator head of German ammo and the higher velocity. I too have gone thru 200 rounds of NS-37 ammo trying to punch thru a Tiger-2 and I just dont see how a Stuka could be worse. Most of all its designed as a verticle dive bomber and should get you the better angles.

If we still had F3 I garuntee you I'd be punching thru Tiger-2s with NS-37s. The trick with the Stuka will be to get in close and fast, get a few rounds off, and reconvert the energy for another pass. You might even be able to invert and dive. I'll be setting my convergance for my 87G very close, as in 200 to 250.

It only takes one or two rounds to disable the tank.
