unidentified network problem

i have an Acer computer that shares a common problem with alot of others. I googled Acer computer will not connect to internet and found that this has been happening for a while. I tried acouple of the fixes posted with no luck. Was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem or if there are some fixes i dont know about. Sometimes it connects and sometimes not...seems to be an ip add problem .....any help would be great . ty

if you know how Dogtown, assign yourself a static ip. It sounds like you have an ip conflict going on. Other options are to disable then reenable your nic card which will force dhcp to give it another ip (which hopefully isnt taken)

These are both solutions that i have read about and tried with no luck...the forms that i have looked at are old post ...there was one that talks about something in the bio's that loses me...i was wondering if you or someone could google it and take a quick look and see if their able to understand it and help explain it to me. BTW it is a wired connection...and that reminds me about one post that talked about the computer set to a public network instead of a home network which mine is doing. i have tried to switch it but the change wont stay. I'm running windows 7 and i think its a glitch that is affecting the Acer brand .Again ty .

 Spiter at the phone line where the internet line and phone make there connection will cause this if it gose bad .          alot

This post http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1023613-unidentified-network-ip-address-conflict-2.html has someone with the same problem. Issue was one of the ipods/ipads had the same ip address as the router.
What other machines are you running through your router? Check all of their ip's and the way they are assigned (dhcp, static etc). There must be one that has either a duplicate ip, or you have a very small ip range on your router - look on there, then assign yourself one outside of that range (ie, 192.168.1.200 - as per that post)

Happy to look at any other post you've found also, just sling me a link etc.

Its driving me nuts...sometimes it connects for a few and sometime it will stay conected until i log off the game and try to do something else. I had the cable company here and they redid and checked everything. There has to be a fix....the computer shops here either wont listen to me or dont want to try. It might help if you can pick up that computer and bring it to the home of a friend willing to let you plug it into their network. If it works there but not at your house, you'll know that the problem is not within the computer.

Acer computers are notorious for 'unexplainable' problems, especially networking. My business partner used to administer a multinational company. They made the mistake of buying Acer laptops. One year after the purchase they put a company wide ban on any Acer products. They experienced problems just like yours.

OTOH it may be a problem with your router. Do you have a router with NAT/DHCP? Have you tried to reboot it? I would do a factory reset to the router before doing anything more drastic. I experienced symptoms a bit like yours when my router started to go south. It feels like a windows problem because the symptoms are there but in reality it (was) the router that's messing it up.

You didn't say if it's a desktop or a laptop... I've heard and seen Acer laptops do less funny things when the battery is beginning to die. The one I once had lost all networking components when the battery was attached, but worked flawlessly without the battery. And of course with the new battery as well... A fellow had one with a battery that still could run the laptop about an hour, but caused troubles. So, if it's an Acer laptop you're having problems with, remove the battery and run it on mains only to see if your problems still exist.

its a desktop ...but all acer products are experiencing the same problems......In my case i Cant get it to stay on the home network setting....on every reboot it can change ... .

I have tried All the basic trouble shooting.

the strangest thing is it will connected after just leaving it alone for hours.

I have a few post to look at and I really could use alittle help here guys.

dogtown, could you say what chipset is being used for the network adaptor? assuming you're using the onboard network adaptor...

i may have missed it but, if there is a spare pci slot on the mobo, have you tried putting a good actual network card in it?

If it has worked well and the symptoms are a new or increasing phenomenon, you could give a try with the following tricks:

• Go to Device Manager, find the Network card, remove it, reboot and let Windows reinstall it
• Open the Command Prompt, type "netsh winsock reset", reboot when asked to
• In the Device Manager again, find the Network card, double click for Options, choose Power Management, uncheck "Let Windows shut this device off" (Or something like that, I'm translating)
• In the Control Panel, choose Power Management and choose the option with minimal energy saving.
