The Panzer today
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:16:15 AM »
The Panzer now has gotten ridiculous, I find that the Panzer has now gotten the front on survivability at some ranges of a Panther and the Gun of a Tiger it seems that this is way overmodeled, atleast in my opinion it is for I know Panzers didnt just shrug 76mm round after round off at point blank range and it has also gotten the same way with the Panzer F anywhere on the front of the hull 9 times out of 10 its usually a richochet (or maybe its just me) I dont have any factual evidence to this matter however I will look into it further.

Anyways I believe this should be looked into, and what are some of the communitities opinions on this matter?

You need to film your sorties and view in slow motion where you are aiming/hitting/missing. Panthers easily kill Panzer's at 3,000 yards front shot, even M4(76) and T-34's.

At such range the problem is aiming, you need to hit it in precise areas or you simply do no damage at all or deflect all day, for example there is a small area on the front of the Panzer where it will deflect a Panther's round, however hitting the flat hull surface or turret yields a kill.

I asked for this awhile back, but are there any illustrations you looked to learn these areas or is it a few years of experience?

Here's a link to Belials setup which is 100% accurate, but really it comes down to practice, If you notice the first photo of the T34/85 - the rear Back hull is usually going to be three hits: KILL shot, Track shot (no damage) and deflection.

You can hit the back side of a moving T34/85 time and time and watch it "hit" but in fact it was either in the tracks or the deflection, most get angry saying the armor system does not work, but if you slow down the films you will start learning some hits get reported some simply arn't kill shots.

You didn't hit him in the same spot, first place you hit him was in a nose section, second was a hull shot.

My Tiger got turreted the other day with one shot from a Panzer after I hit him twice with an 88, It happens. I pretty much don't GV much anymore because of that new automatic transmission. It gets me killed more than any other thing in the game. You can't creep foreword anymore because the transmission takes off with you or gets you suck trying to clime a hill. Magic Panzer s are the least of my GV problems.

I have on many occasions made this observation. Many times I have fired at a Panzer point blank with a Panther, and even a T34/85 with AP equipped and seen either a riccochet or the round go straight through only to make a nice little foxhole for those poor bastards on the ground...but, IT HAPPENS. Now, the point blank stuff I will never understand and I have given up trying to. Butcher will tell you though, at farther ranges, you can bounce 88mm Tiger rounds off a T34 due to the distance, angle, spot where the round hit, etc.

I haven't tanked period in a few tours, hopped in FSO last night to tank and test my luck - every shot was HVAP and from 800-1.2k out, I did not have one single ricochet except for the very last shot which glanced off the turret of a Panzer F.

20 kills and two deaths, it simply takes practice in knowing where exactly to hit - I had a few track hits - even caused a few panthers to bounce rounds off my T34/85 at less than 1,000 yards out.

I should of saved the film, but during FSO I was quickly trying to respawn :(

Yep, it's like most on here say. It's placement. Seeing a hit splash at a 1/4 inch panzer graphic gives you an idea of where you hit, not the exact point.  I have 1 shot many a panzer, and have had the ones that seem indestructable.

Now something hard to kill is the Wirb which is on a panzer chassis, sometimes 2 shots will do it, first one in turret to knock the gun out, then it seems like it takes half the loadout to finish it off.
