DGSII Team Axis Presents the Fw 190D9
« on: June 11, 2012, 03:26:24 PM »
FOCKE-WULF FW 190D-9

The Fw 190, one of Germany's best fighter airplanes of World War II, made its first flight on June 1, 1939. It appeared in action over northwestern France in September 1941 and rapidly proved its superiority over the Mark V Spitfire, Britain's best fighter of that time.

Most Fw 190s were the "A" series, powered by a BMW radial engine. Late in 1943, however, the more capable "D" series appeared in action against U.S. bombers, powered by the more powerful Jumo 213 inline, liquid-cooled engine. Because the larger engine lengthened its nose, a 20-inch section had to be added to the Fw 190D-9's fuselage just forward of the tail. During its lifetime, more than 20,000 Fw 190s of all types were built.

This Fw 190D-9 on display at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force was assigned to the JG3 "Udet" Geschwader. One of the Luftwaffe's most famous fighter units, JG3 was named for Ernst Udet, Germany's leading ace to survive World War I.

You must be incredibly fortunate Butcher, to never have encountered a D9 who isn't bingo ammo.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Hard to say I've ever seen a D9 bingo - usually they run after 1 turn its tough to tell if they are bingo since they extend well out of my range before I can catch up.

LOL that's at the Air Force Museum in Dayton.....Wright Patterson.

This aircraft unbelievably landed without a Pilot.  As usuall the Luftwaffe Pilot lowered his gear and bailed.

The 190D ran all the way to Dayton!

Actually it's on loan from the NASM

The Dora is a fantastic killing machine in team environments.    When flown by good pilots with excellent shooting abilities your bombers and lil ponies will fall by the dozen.

I have about 5 open slots and if anyone is interested in flying under such an inspirational leader then let me know.   :lol

A very rare chance indeed as the Luft are usually our sworn enemy!
