TrackIR problems
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:08:05 AM »
When looking at the extreme edges with TrackIR, the view
often hangs and re-centering with F12 is needed, no big deal.

But after recentering, I get into a 'strange' cockpit view
where head movements result only in a leaning
of the virtual body, I can't look left or right anymore.
Is this a feature? How do I exit that mode (key comb)?
Thanks!

It sounds like perhaps you are having to turn your head too much and TIR cannot "see" your reflectors/emitters. You can try modifying your TIR profile so you don't have to turn your head so much to get the in-game head to turn all the way.

So...  If you turn your head beyond a certain amount, the view stops moving, and when you return your head to the center position, it does not move the head in the game?

Wiley.

Exactly. After the view is stuck I do a recenter with F12.
But that is not the problem, this happens also in other simulators.

The view then returns to cockpit forward which is intended, but
then my head movements only result in leaning the pilot's body
left or right, not the virtual 'head' turning left, right or up.

It seems I get into another AH view mode, and I cannot find
out how to return to normal. What might this 'leaning-only' mode
be? And what key combination will switch from there to normal?

Is this with the hat attachment track or the actual two pronger you attache to your headphones?

Often you can solve this one of two ways. Move the reciever off center on your monitor so it lines up with the prongs better, and/or, move the reciever up or down more on your monitor to better line up with the location of the prongs.

As for the ball cap setup I gave up on it. I liked it cause I could use my speakers and get the phones off my head but I just had to many issues with it.
Yes, your on "Ignore"

That doesn't sound like any 'mode' the software can be put into I'm aware of.  It sounds more like a glitch.

First thing I'd try is using a different profile, see if it does the same thing.

Next thing I'd try if that doesn't work would be copying the 'profiles' folder under c:\program files\naturalpoint somewhere else, a complete uninstall, manual removal of all the files under c:\program files\naturalpoint, and a reinstall of the software.  Try it with a new profile, then if that works, add your old profiles back in at that point.

Can you duplicate this when only running TrackIR and looking at the TrackIR display screen?

As FLS said use the trackir display screen and watch the emitters/reflectors as you turn your head, one of them may be getting blanked out or covered up.   It will also show if you have a light source behind you that is interfering.
We have clearance, Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?

I found the culprit.
I am using an old, NaturalPoint cap, which has a reflector
in the middle of the peak/visor. Together with the clip
on the cap, it then amounts to four reflectors, I believe only
three are expected by the receiver.
I taped over the peak reflector with black tape, and
the problem disappeared.

Thanks to all responding to my issue!
