Knights like to spread butter on bread ?
« on: February 25, 2000, 02:31:00 AM »
Man...what's the problem with Knights ? We are already 95% of the Time outnumbered with the Rooks and Bishes, flying their "Sissyfires" and 8 /10 last times I logged on, not only wrere we outnumbered, but we were SPREAD OUT....meaning , there was 1 to 3 Knights in each fields...last time I logged on, 3 of us were defending 18 (a High field close tho the most importat Rook field---> of High Value), there were about 8 Cons vulching, a couple of Goons flying high above...waiting. Yet, I called to action a few times and the Knights were continuing their little "private wars" everywhere else on the map !

One thing I remember from my OTC is that NUMBERS count....so what are we supposed to do when we are outnumbered 3/10 ?---> STICK TOGETHER...

Now, ok , Knights are good "6 callers" but , hey....need a little "roughing up" on the Strategy side of things....C'mon guys, get it together....

Hehe, I had just the opposite impression of Knights.

After switching to Knights, I learned that they are small but much closer community than the  Rooks are. They are no gang banging mob for sure, like some other countries turn into at times

Knights are good six-callers and six-clearers. Also, they like LW rides far more than other countries.

Knights are either overwhelmed by enemies, or nobody fights them at all. In other words, kills are far more rare than for Rooks, for example.

Sometimes both Bishops and Rooks pick on Knights, even if the Bishops outnumber Knights 2:1, and Rooks outnumber both 2:1

You are right in this case Saw.  I was there and saw what was going on.  I took off from 22 bound for 18 to try to help at least 5 + times over the course of the night.  I ended up shooting down 4 bombers and 3 fighters for the loss of 2 of my own.  At the time we were outnumbered, and most of us were south defending 6 and 5.  In the case of 18, if every knight went there, we still would have been outnumbered, not to mention leaving 6, 5, and 22 undefended.  Does this mean we shouldn't defend it, no, it just makes it harder to do so.  Fortunately for us knights, there are a group of us who will launch repeatedly from contested fields to try to save them.  I believe you flew quite a few sorties with FOX & Heckel.  I myself try to get a couple thousand feet under me to try to take down the bombers, who are the real threat.  What happened in this case was simply not enough pilots to defend 3 fields at once.  You are right though Saw, we most certainly could have done better.  You most certainly deserve a big for defending 18 as well as you did.

Hiya guys.. Hm.. I guess it seems different during the hours that I fly. Inevitably, the Knights outnumber everyone, and I happen to fly at that time, along with a lot of other people of course. I'm a bish, and stayed bish ever since I started in October. I chose to stay despite what seems to be a large portion of the LW in Knightland. Why? I'd feel funny flying against/shooting at the guys I started with. Also, I'm pretty sure each country will outnumber the others at certain times, so I don't bother with changing. Anyway, I think every country will have times when everyone is off in distant corners of the map, or seem to lack coordination. Everyone will have their own ideas of what to do.. take the battle to the front, or help defend the home fields from attack. One thing though, during scenarios i bet things will look better since there are clearly defined goals. I never flew in one yet, so if I'm wrong.. Have fun and see you in the skies!

Saw, you should have seen the numbers we had up last night, especially JG2, I think we had 10 actively flying, raising hell, tearing the goal posts down, absolutely a great night for the Knights!

I like flying Knights best of all the countries I've flown. That said, I won't say they're tactical geniuses all the time (though the same can be said of all sides).

I've been there (trying to save a vital field). Some people will not go anywhere near a vultchfest until the ack comes back up. That's an individual choice. I would have done what you did, stayed and fought it out til the end.

Something you'll have to get used to as a Knight is the fact the enemies will use their numbers to spread Knights out over the map. failure to defend any base means its immediate loss, and you wind up defending 3 bases. You'll be right back on F18 defending, this time with no far away field to grab alt from. The best bet is to send a bomber out right away and start an offensive strike- defending bases only loses a war.

I'm not discounting your concern for 18, only that Knights have to defend in small numbers over several fields all the time. You'll see what I mean soon enough.

Numbers still jumble a bit, but for the record when I logged last (and is a typical case) the numbers were 38:16:14, Rook:Bishop:Knight. Welcome to the land of single-plane base defense!

I was on for a while but I don't think at the same time as you Saw.  There was a heated large # fight for 18.  At the same time one of our own fields 6 was under attack. My choice in that case is to defend the home land and let the rental property go if needed.  Kieren is right tho an offensive strike against strat or another base will usually ease things up for us.  If you look at my stats with a spit you can see I do alot of single fighter base defense to hold onto what ever I can until higher planes can, if they ever do, come from a farther base with some alt.   (Spit is my fighter of choice for those quick grab and defend.  Hog is my normal ride)  S!

To my Right Honourable Sirs of the Chivalrous State:

I really think it fluctuates.  Sometimes, we're all over the map, regardless of our situation, and at other times we're literally like one or two squads.

I will say this: it doesn't take much for us to get organized.  There are a number of occasions when I called out to my comrades for assistance on a raid, and my calls were answered. And I remember earlier this week when we took two fields at the same time.  Having our squad switch to Knight (from Rook) was a good choice.

Saint,

Spend less time on channel one berating the enemy for their choice of ride, and more time doing air traffic control for your fellows.

Solution.

LOL Heckel, you weren't the one who needed the drink holder last night.  With all the kills you were getting, I doubt you had time to even think about getting a drink.

I, on the other hand, most certainly need one.  The Bucs and I spent the better part of an hour trying for 15 and 11.  Most of this time I was sitting on the ground in my c47 near 11 with the sheep crawling all over my plane.   (Take a look at "Those Crazy Sheep." for a picture.  I'm sorry the file size is so large.)
