I don't know what to do to help my wife get a job (Austin, TX)

My wife has been trying to get a job as a bookkeeper for more than two years now here in Austin, TX. She has had a few short contracts or contracts that dissipated. Two weeks ago she was brought on as a temp to hire to replace a lady who had been employed there for twelve weeks of which she'd called out sick for eight weeks worth of days and been up to an hour late and/or taken an extra hour on lunches on the days she did show up. They have been extremely happy with her performance and, despite not having much experience, her knowledge and ability to do the job. They were excited about her ability to assist in communicating with their branch in Hyderbad, India as she speaks Hindi. Today she was informed that today will be her last day as the owner, against the recommendation of her immediate superiors and an outside consultant, has decided not to open that position.

Does anybody have any ideas on how she can overcome her lack of experience? We are getting truly desperate and the fact that people like the lady before her can get and hold jobs longer is extremely vexing, discouraging and depressing.

That problem is all across the board, even in the Military you see it. Guys who shouldn't be promoted only getting promoted for time in service not preformance.

One thing my sister(nurse) and cousin(teacher) did was get jobs at places where they were over qualified for to get experience in the field, not sure what that would be for a bookkeeper but if she got good experience there it may shine into someones eye later down the road for the job she wants.

Only suggestion I have, is to keep trying, contact many companies each day until the pieces all fall in the right place.  Her great job is out there, just hard to find.  I'd start with a temp agency to get my foot in the door of several companies to meet people and jump on the first opportunity that presents itself as fun and rewarding.

She needs to stop disclosing her credentials.  The position she just lost will be filled by someone without a degree.

yeah I hear that, been trying to get into the oilfield but "atleast 6 months prior experience"   yeah I dont understand being OVERQUALIFIED either

Well, perhaps a bit of a reprieve.  We'll see.  Her immediate superiors convinced those above to think about it some more.

Because it is cheaper to hire someone with a lower or no degree. My older brother (26) is an Electrician for a Natural Gas company, and he is debating whether or not to get an Electrical Engineering degree because of that.
