It will be rare to see any F4Fs in this set up, even though it was one of the allies main fighters in PTO around this time.

As in real life Ki-61s wouldn't fair well against Spit 5s, F4u-1's or P38Gs, let alone A6m3s Ki-43s or A6m5s. How can you make it balanced since these are the mid-war fighters for the Japanese? add more Ki-61s? We need Ki-43s since Ki-61s were not exactly the main fighter here, an Early model Ki-61 perhaps, however not a late war model.

Realistically speaking at this point in the war, american 4 engines were more of a threat to Japanese fighters then American Fighters were.

I dunno I think the Ki61 matches up well enough to those allied planes. Unfortunately we are still in need of a ton of Japanese Army aircraft to make completely realistic setups.

I surely hope my squad gets a fairly larger amount of Ki61 and Zeke 3's to make up for all the German "Junk" we had to fly last month.  :rock

Yeah it kind of sucks, there are plenty of aircraft that could fill the gap Ki-45 and Ki-43s, early model Ki-61's would be realistic, maybe throw a Ki-44 squadron (even though they wern't in the area) for Buff interceptions.
It would certainly bring more energy into the PTO, as well as plenty of aircraft match ups.

Then again more I think about it, having 20mm version Ki-61 is balancing out the scenario since they actually are Late war not Mid war, but it does give japan a slight edge in firepower.

have you ever feared a 61 in a F4U even in the MA?  Add alt, squad and coordination and that initial answer is only magnified.  As with every PTO scenario, it is just going to be a fight to see if we can at least keep it interesting (for us, for the allies it is always a turkey shoot).

And chasing down TBM that basically out run everything but the KI 61 is going to be interesting again.

Not complaining. . . it is always fun because it is FSO - but PTO for the Axis is just our side doing our penitence for playing on the 'wrong side'.

And you know what - I relish the challenge - but don't anyone start trying to put lipstick on this pig and the attempt by some in this thread to do so is bs. and that is why I wrote this.

anyway, see ya in the sky!
