New AI missions
« on: June 21, 2012, 11:07:17 PM »
Just read a thread by hitech posted in the general forum.

These missions can then be played in the custom host arenas, or the special events arenas. (all arenas are capable but CM privileges are needed to load one.) The AI fills the mission spots that players do not .

So it would be possible to have a missions where most bombers are flown by AI in a scenario.

Since AI is now available we also have added a reconnect ability.
If you disco, an AI will fly your plane for a period of time until you return or the time runs out.
Something CM's have wanted for a long time. :) I was wondering how the CM's might implement the use of AI in FSO. Thoughts?

I can think of a scenario where 300 formations of AI buffs (900 birds) were escorted to a target by 100 pilots, being intercepted by 150+ German birds. All fighter mission, both sides with goals set around number of buffs that make target, and return past a certain sector line.

Having flown some offline missions the AI is decent but lacks the killer edge. I would presume that AI buffs would cruise at max speed just fine but their defensive firepower would be far less then .50s manned by a real player, thus allowance for massive buff formations.

Just my 2c
This is a really bad idea. No matter the altitude an AI bomber will always hit. Look at the stats of a smart bomb today and a smart bomb 75 years ago. Only 1 is truly smart and it is not the one 75 years ago which needed 3000 birds to take down a warehouse the size of a football field. Today 1 laser guided 2k lber is accurate enough to land it within 1 meter of the 50 yard line. Maybe even closer.

Flak even at .3 accuracy is still dangerous. Nothing is ever left up to chance seeing chance doesn't even exist to a computer. Fill those seats with new pilots to FSO than computers.

I'm assuming that these AI missions can be set up with a flight path just like a CV be given a cruise heading route?

I see that each Frame CIC can have a decoy mission with a limited amount of aircraft to roam over enemy skies.

We are discussing it, we know a little about it but not much more than what has already been discussed publicly by hitech. Until we have our grubby little paws on it it's all speculation.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

interesting idea using AI's.

I do agree with the comments above, killer edge and such.

I can also see where the scoring might have some issues as well.

I know nun of us here can control it but for whats its worth you would want to be able to adjust the defensive fires from a "massive bomber formation" in the same the CM's now adjust the ack settings for a base.  Otherwise you'll run into issues from early through late war settings if it remains the same.

I think its worth taking a "shot" with it.  If they do get used from time to time I don't think it will throw off the game to much.  I wouldn't think AI's would be used in every frame or scenario either.

Now using the AI feature might lead to at least 1 interesting scenario set up:

All AI side against All human side  :D  See who can shot down the most by individual, squad and or group.

Sorry but AI bombers in an event doesn't sound all that fun. Who the hell would want to fly around shooting at computer flown drones? Where's the challenge in that?

Here Ive got a better idea. How about a set up where both sides are flow by the AI. Then all if us can just fly around in CM Eye mode and watch and keep the computers score.

Well, it sure solves some of the problems we have with Pacific Scenarios.

I think its great if an AI can temporarily take over in case of a disco so a player can get back in the game with out starting over again. I also think this would be a great idea in the MA. Everytime I get into a fight I can pull the plug the AI would take over and after a few minutes log back in. My K/D will surely improve by this. :neener:

One thing comes to mind. Some of the smaller squads (4-6) that struggle holding their own might enjoy a mission with 12 slots, bomber mission for example, (total of 36 bombers) and they fill about 4 or 6 of the 12 slots. IMHO using AI in certain situations could enhance the fun factor for many involved.

In any case, as Nef said until the details are released no telling what all the possibilities are.

Well, looking at the number of people in FSO from 2008 to now. IN 2008, we where looking at approximately 260 on each side. Now we will be lucky to have 170 on each side. I have brought this up of using AI in FSO and wondering if this may get people back into it.

If it is possible to have AI, then each side will have two CiC. One would be CO CiC and the other will be XO CiC. The CO handles the mission plan while the XO sets up the AI mission rout (if that is what has to be done). AI's can be fighters, escorts, JABO or bomber. In all, it would make it interesting.

Well, it sure solves some of the problems we have with Pacific Scenarios.

What problems will it solved?  Just asking not trolling.

In SEA events we have issues with getting players interested in manning D3As and B5Ns ect as well as some others that ar not exactly fan favorites. It may very well give us the ability to use forces like that in larger #s without the issues of assigning squads to rides like that (and some others). Will just have to see what the program is capable of. Looking forward to seeing what it can do so we can hash it out.

How are the AI planes gonna interact with live pilots, are they gonna be able to take evasive action, are they gonna be able to dogfight? See where I'm going with this. People are gonna want to look for these exclusively to "pad" thier score and not work for them!!!! :salute

This is second knowledge, admittedly, but I have heard that the AI is fairly decent.  A friend of mine told me that he was able to get into a rolling scissors with one once even.
