The Neon signs are big enough. Do not make them bigger please.

if it only was known once you got close (400 yds?)  I dont think it would be a problem.

Yes, I like that. Squad ID should certainly be limited to a reasonable distance. I'd make it visible within D800 yards, the same distance that specific plane models become visible in the icon. If I'm close enough to tell the difference between a Bf-109E and a Bf-109F, then I should be close enough to discern squad markings.

I said before, I'm not trying to make the icon bigger or cram in more info. I'm asking for a fifth icon mode that gives players the option of ID'ing squad membership. If the player has this mode enabled, then normal icon mode applies until the players are within a certain distance.

Sorry, did not understand it this way. A fifth mode will be fine, except for the inconvenience of more clicking to cycle back to the initial mode.

If such a thing is implemented, I'd like to ask that two separate cycles are made:
1. Turning icons on/off: All icons -> Friendly Icons -> no icons
2. The info displayed on friendlies: handle -> plane model -> squadron

#2 only changes what si displayed on friendlies tags. Whether or not the icons are displayed at all depends on the selection in #1.
For most of the playing needs, players will likely just cycle #2 which is a shorter cycle than what we do today and a safer one (like missing a click and ending without icons till you find that that one pixel dot is 1k away and closing fast...)
#1 can be forced in the arena setting.

You think that having the name tag of an enemy pilot hovering above the plane is a good thing? Because that's what it essentially is. If you look at the rooster at anything but the immediate prime time, you will see that many squads have only one or at most two players online on non "squad-nights". Not to speak of the many players with one man squads.

An addition to the players like myself who are in a squad, but frequently fly in other countries.

You've completely missed the concept of what I'm talking about. IRL, squads flew certain plane types with unique skins and ID markings. We can't do this in game because any squad can fly any plane with any skin (sometimes identical skins). I'm asking for the ability to be able to ID a player's squad affiliation as if I could recognize them in flight. (e.g. the 91st BG flies B-17's with a skin that has a large letter A inside a triangle on the tail during squad missions. Now we don't fly that every sortie and plenty of other non-squad players use it, but with this system people around us could recognize us as the 91st as if we alone flew that specific setup every time.)
This would work for all planes/vehicles within a certain distance (say D800) regardless of being friend or foe. I'd like for it to be enabled for enemy cons as well because it gives an added dimension of, not to sound too serious, knowing your enemy as you engage. I don't think this would immediately out a specific individual unless their flying alone, or would be detrimental enough to affect the outcome. For friendly missions, it would be easy for the coordinator and others to see who is familiar with one another to assign tasks. ("OK, those three guys are with the Claim Jumpers. I'm going to assign them to hit the town.") This could help build squad reputations and perceptions within the AH community.
