Indexing high value posts for easy access
« on: June 24, 2012, 06:14:49 AM »
I've been going through hundreds of old posts, some 5 to 10 years old, and there are some that are highly insightful with respect to improving skill and knowledge in Aces High.  Yet there are a hundred times as many that offer little insight into anything of value for someone trying to improve skill or knowledge.  Many posts are just thanking or agreeing with a prior post.

I wish for a method that can separate the wheat from the chaff among all BBS posts.

Some posts have value only for a short period of time, for example a post thanking someone for a good fight, others have timeless value, for example a post by a top pilot explaining how to line up a crossing shot with pictures and/or videos or how to improve SA in the MA.

Don't know what the best method is to do this, but maybe a like/dislike button or a link to sort the most often read posts at the top, or a combination of these.

Another way might be for an easy method for mods/AH staff to mark posts as high value or offerring special insight and provide a link to this list.

Last count is almost 4 million posts...it seems a shame for many of the best posts to be lost in this ever growing mass.

 :aok

Maybe if people actually used the wiki the index could be maintained there by the player base and divided into categories.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

some posts that may have been great 2 years ago would not apply today.  there's a thread of how to build a really awesome computer around a dual core processor and at the time was the best.  it doesnt apply anymore.

that's what happens with some valuable posts.  they stop being valuable over time.  and who would really be in charge to indicate that a specific thread is valuable or not.  and after that to go thru and make sure that the thread still applies a year or two from now.
