Tracers
« on: June 25, 2012, 10:00:07 AM »
I searched for and read previous post on this, but still do not have a clear answer...

When turning tracers off, do the tracer rounds get replaced with more lethal non-tracer rounds increasing the total hitting power of your rounds, assuming you hit the target?

No.

Why not?  Wouldn't the non-tracer rounds be less burdened since the tracer component is gone or replaced? :headscratch:

We are not talkign abotu real life. Projectiles in AH are not modeled with such a detail. Here, a tracer is just an optical effect, not a different round.

But we are attempting to simulate RL to some extent - ex flight model, damage model.  Seems it would be easy to implement this difference and create a tangible RL reason to turn tracers off, even if minor.

This now belongs in the wish category.   :old:

Midway,

Our rounds in this game are a homoginised cluge to satisfy a damage table. In the game you can use the tracer to aim with becasue it's modeled more like a plasma bolt from other online games. With the exception that only the tip of the bolt causes damage. Do some offline shooting at drones then play the films back in super slow motion from the con's percpective.

In real life tracers could not be used to aim with becasue the projectile and the flame you saw were far enough apart, your visual perception and focus on the flame would place your aim late due to the flame lagging behind the projectile. And yes in real life tracer ammo had different flight and impact charateristics than other types of rounds.

It's a game.

Huh??  that is the reason for them....have you ever tried to fire a 50 (Or any of the big guns) cal full on...trying to aim using the sight after you pull that trigger is futile...the tracers is what you use to guide your rounds to target...

even the ground guns, with their big round sight is just a vibrating piece of metal with a cross on it once you start firing

Edit
Oh yes and midway...I'm pretty sure that at close ranges the hitting power is pretty close to that of a normal round...longer distances there are some losses in energy causing a lesser effective damage but all in all...it is the same type of round being used...
