I used to hire people.  resumes are mostly made up of lies.  just some are better written than others.  most resumes I got were not actually completed by the sender, but by a 3rd party, that was obvious during the interview.

as bad as it sounds, our company had a unofficial policy of not hiring people over 30 for entry level positions as they could ask for a higher salary.  or people who didnt look like "they belonged", not a color or ethnic thing, but still all the crap I had to do still makes me feel guilty, as they were some that were very well qualified, but we offered the job to others who truly didnt belong working there.  about 90% of all the people we hired were just young "I am superior" than you attitude who spent more time whining about work than actually doing some.

based on who we hired were I work, I see that nothing has changed.

semp,

It's the same as when you did the hiring.

The amount of complete BS that people put on their resumes is comical, especially when you know what you're talking about.  However, it really comes out when you ask the candidate questions about the experience/BS they listed on their resume.

Resume:  Managed EMC CX3 Series SAN

Me: "So, tell me about your experience with the EMC SAN.  That's a similiar model to what we're using here."
Candidate:  "Well, I never really worked much on the SAN, you know, we had a guy who did that for his full time job.  But I did watch him.  And when we migrated to a new SAN, I watched too, so I kind of saw what they were doing.  It was really the contractors, but I tried to sit and learn as much as I could."

I narrowed my candidates down from 400ish to 10, and had 7 phone interviews.  4 of the phone interviews were full of questions and answers like the example above.

I also had a couple of applicants send me LinkedIn requests as soon as they applied.  While I appreciate a 'go getter' attitude, that's a tad forward. :)
