Track IR question

I have read several threads on Track IR, though I was looking for the most recent information considering new technology seems to make the "current" stuff outdated after 6-months or so.

- What is the best Track IR system?
- What is a solid, middle of the road Track IR system?
- What is a fair price for a used Track IR system?
- Is there an alternative software that might work with a regular camera?

Anything else I should be asking?

TrakIR is the name brand
it works well I think I paid 149.00 on amazon for the Trak IR 5
if you are handy there are some free "Trak IR" programs that you can use a web cam with ,so I have heard.
it can be tricky to set up and use you might evenmake yourself a lil sick the first few minutes,but  my humble meaninglesss opinion is that it helps make the game feel more "real"
much like rudder pedals or control yokes add the the experience

Track ir 5 works well for me. I wont fly without some form of head tracking now.

If you need help setting it up feel free to ask. I program a button on my x-52 for track ir center.
This is necessary if you happen to get up and then return to sit down in a slightly different posifion.

Oh, dont forget you have the reflectors on your hat..

trakir is gonna make you dizzy to the point of throwing up the first week or two.  unless you are like a pilot on real life or something like that.  but other than that, it will be money well spent.  you will be able to hide and see airplanes in places where they cannot see you.  i cant tell you the number of times i got into a dogfight and all of a sudden the other airplane went straight as they thought they had lost me while i was behind and in a blind spot and nailed them.

it's a new learning toy but well worthy.  it will cost you about 168 bucks plust tax and shipping.  if you use a hadset make sure you buy the clip pro as it is better than the "hat reflector".  and the extra money is well spend.  if you dont use a headset then just buy the basic one but you only save like 19 bucks.  make sure you buyt the 5.0 and not the 4.  the extra 40 bucks is worth it.

I'm just lucky, I guess: took me all of fifteen minutes to absolutely love my old TrackIR 3, and I've never had any problems with dizzyness from it.  Upgraded to the TrackIR 5 a few months ago, and very happy with the improvements that NaturalPoint has made.  The "6DOF" lets me lean around canopy frames, which is critical to me in planes like the 109 and A6M.

Some people just love it, some people can't stand it/get dizzy etc.

I'm in the 'love it' category.  Once I got the profile tweaked to my liking, it allowed me to see things I can't see any other way.  I have 4 hardware running the 5 software.  The 5 software is much better than the software for 4.  It's much easier to adjust.

i never got sick with it and took me about 2 days to realize its usefulness "using it correctly" when dog fighting i wont give mine up i still suck at flying but im able to track cons better.... i went with the trackir 5 and love it it has twice the resolution then there other one witch can mean smoother movement.. worked right out of the box...

My original TIR 3 bit the dust a month ago.  Upgraded to the TIR5 and really like it.  Larger field of view really made a difference in my setup!

Y'know... I've never tried that.  <facepalm>  I'll have to give that a shot when I get online this evening.  Stay tuned.

BTW:
I've used the reflector "track clip" on a baseball cap for years, starting with my old TrackIR 3.  A few days ago I decided to give the "trackclip pro" (with the active LEDs) a try.  The "pro" is definitely the way to go.  (It mounted easily on my Turtle Beach HPA2.)  I can now look straight up out of the cockpit far easier, as well as turn to either side.  With the old (passive) clip, large head movements would sometimes cause one or two of the reflectors to be obscured from the TrickIR camera.  My new "pro" clip can be turned much further away from the camera before one of the LEDs is out of its sight.  Very happy with the upgrade.

you might be sensitive to that kind of thing, but it's not an absolute as semp is implying.

it took me about half an hour to get used to it to the point that i was able to shoot down some planes, and 2 days to be completely comfortable

dood, it affects people different.  but a good portion of those who use it do experience dizziness.  it's been posted before by others.  but I bought mine I knew what to expect because it had been clear to me that was a possibility.  after a couple of weeks I had no problems whatsoever.  I had other players come over to my house and they say it does make them dizzy.

i never got dizzy with it and i got drunk the first night i used it no problems what so ever.. but some people may be more sensitive woman/children..
