Seventy years ago, on July 18 1942, the Messerschmitt ME-262 made its first flight under jet power.

Not exactly the "Dawn of the Jet Age", since both the Gloster E.28/39 and the Heinkel He 178 flew earlier, but the 262 did go on to become the first operational jet-powered warplane.

Funny how most of the films show the original tail dragger even though they went to tricycle gear for production.
