Frame rates
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:53:03 PM »
I can get in the 60's (FPS) after following the tips page.  However As soon as I get into action serious frame rate drop and usually leads to me ALT F4 in frustration.  What can I do?

XP
1 gig video radeon 3600
2 gig ram
2.4 GHz p4
tips page followed
no max settings in game except water
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

I need to see a DXDIAG output.  Make sure no other programs are running when you run it.

Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

1)  You have a lot of programs running in the background.  You should consider spending some time getting those trimmed down as the CPU you have is not going to scale well under load.

2)  The 3600 series ATI video cards were midrange cards, when they were new (around 4 years ago).  Today, that line is pretty low end.  You need to make sure you do not have any of the "Advanced" option selected in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel.  Consider setting the "Maximum Texture Size" in the "Video Settings" to 512, or less.

3)  In the "Options->Graphic Detail" panel, check all the option which have the word "Disable" in them.  Make sure all ground clutter is disabled.

Once you do all the above, it should help reduce the performance drops in crowds.

Time for a new computer or can I upgrade the graphics card to get mt eye candy back?  If so what would you recommend?
