The Game-i-est Feature of the Game
« on: July 24, 2012, 10:25:27 PM »
Dear Hitech,

I love all the changes of late. The game is even better than when I was playing it constantly a couple of years ago. Many of the "Gamey" features of the game, such as the ridiculously rectangular towns have been fixed, and almost every feature I've asked for, included 88s has been added.

I really only have one gripe (apart from the continued absence of the HE111 and any Italian Bombers) left: The Troops. This in my opinion is the most arcade-like element of the game. They all run in a perfectly straight line, at the same rate directly to the map room. If they could spread out into some sort of a squad formation, or at least not follow exactly the same line at exactly the same intervals, that would add quite a bit of realism.

I'll forgo my desire to have them shoot their rifles at planes overhead or single pilots hiding in the maproom if I could just get that change.

PS: Love the dance.  :aok

But while I'm at it, would having the troops be able to fire their rifles at enemy planes, vehicles, or troops create an imbalance in the game?

+1 on troops manouvreing more tactically +1 on them being able to fire at enemies. Just as long as everyone understands they will not be able to hit anything. with the calibre and r.o.f in particular of squad weapo s ground to air fire is unrealistic

The entire strat system, including base capture, is inevitably going to be unrealistic and "arcade-like".  It's purpose is not simulation of WWII reality, but to increase game play elements and set up fights between individual aircraft (and latterly GVs).  These are I think the only portion of the game which is intended to be realistic, and only at the level of individual plane and GV performance relative to their opponents.

Hey, at least their legs move now. They used to hover across the land and have a .45 pointed straight. Always.

speaking of tactical reality....(good post)

Say a tank gets to range "?" and holds.

Then an M-3 drops 10 troops/sniper group at the tank.

Then the tank and troops move in to a distance of "?".  At "?" distance troops release from the tank and move to map room.

Troops can maneuver and fire on gun emplacements.

The option of a sniper and spotter instead of troops for a pre-assault group to take out gun emplacements.

Troops in direct fire hunker down while the ones not in direct fire keep going to eliminate the threat/die.

FOR OPFOR

You can drop troops to fortify the town area.

Before dropping you issue an order to guard instead of attack.

This could be done also on out skirts of town to guard against  M-3s
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

The squeakers.  It's so obvious that they're too young to enlist or get drafted.

Get rid of AI troops completely, and require say... 3 player troops to take a base.

These would have to be DEDICATED troops, no bailing out of planes.

So, one C-47 pilot drops 3 real live players, they have to land and run to the map room.

How they get there is up to them.

Same thing with M3, Jeep (although you'd have to knock down the number of people a Jeep could carry).

I watched all 10 enemy troops walk over a friendly tank and he never saw them or the m3 that dropped them 100 feet away.

Slow the troops down, they run way too fast.

I would like to see the troops modeled as "green army man". Each with his own pose and equipment. I don't care if they do not animate:

If they could have individual names showing in their friendly icons that would be even cooler!

Why? Jeeps could carry 4 guys or more

The jeep and M3 are the only 2 troops carriers in the game that carry the correct number of troops.  Everything else has been nerfed.
