Axis v Allies, what FUN!
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:44:05 PM »
We had a great turnout tonight in the AvA arena! Thank you to Kuya, Ranger and all the others who worked behind the scenes and everyone who showed up for their participation. I'm tired, so I'll let another post describe the carnage that was the AvA arena tonight.

Good show Allies. Very good action and fun. :salute

Superb time.  Excellent fights, excellent immersion, a rare chance to have high-alt historical combat.  Thanks to all who showed up, hope we can all do it often.

That was a superb experience.

Jappa52, that was an intense fight on the deck.... Tazz finally saved me, but that fight made my night!

SIK1 and I both got there just a bit late so we ended up as a section of the 364th flying as green flight with the 51s.  Initially we ran into 6 109K4s which we were able to keep busy enough for a bit to slow them finding the bombers.  They eventually got tired of trying to catch us and moved on.  We then trailed in the bombers at about 30K.  A single 109 then tried to make a run at us but we were able to dispatch him with a bit of good teamwork.

Single and twin cons continued to show and we danced a bit with them as they came in.  The bombers were bombs gone and on egress by this time and SIK and I were last ones out.  Again we ran into single or double cons.  I ended up down low with a couple of 190s while SIK helped Pacman up high with a 109.  Fuel was getting to be an issue so I did what they did back then in hitting the deck and making for the channel.  The two 190s kept after me for a bit until one broke off.  The other tried to slide in to my blind spot low 6 but I spotted him and kept the speed up and took it right on the deck.  Eventually I had to turn into him despite the fuel issues and after a bit of a fight, and a touch of flap use I shot him down.  Again I hit the deck and made for the coast.

And in typical CorkyJr fashion, after all that work, I managed to clip my prop on a tree when I was typing and found myself down in France :)

Good fun :aok

I'd like to thank the gents of the AvA arena for allowing us to have this good time.

Nothing like cloud layers at differing altitudes which is actually normal weather over the Channel and Europe.

Thanks again!

I was a bit concerned about the arena switch for several reasons.  Looks like I had nothing to be worried about.  Entire event came off without a hitch.

I even liked the shorter Icon's.

Luftwaffe did a really good job of unrelenting attacks for an hour.  The short icon's gave them a bit more of a chance of being in a decent attack position before they could be positively ID'd.
That in combination with the no dar dot settings made the Allied buff defenders stay on their toes continuously.

The communication between the allied forces was quite good I thought.
