Better a tractor than a tank, I guess. I remember the freak from San Diego nearly wiped out an entire neighborhood.

how does 8 totaled police cars only equal 250k?  ~32k each seems low considering what is in them.

I grew up in that area.  More people are likely to do something like that when upset than to pull out a gun and shoot a bunch of people.  Years back, a farmer was upset over some policy or other that came down from the state, so he spent the better part of a very early morning spreading manure on the interstate.  It was pretty funny.

Not only did they steal his property, they also put him in chains before tossing him into a cage.  This has happened to me before and while I believe he could have exercised more self control, I certainly don't blame him for what he did.  The cops drew first piss as far as I'm concerned.
