Oldtimer/Noob question.
« on: August 04, 2012, 01:14:31 PM »
After 207 years :old: of faithful service I have retired my CH analog gear and have stepped into last century and gotten some CH usb gear.

What the heck does everybody do with the little joystick on the throttle. Any advice would be appreciated...even that which doesn't make sense.  :salute

There are scripts that you can program to use it for views, and I'm sure all sorts of other stuff.  All I use mine for is as a button to start/stop my film viewer.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0
Track IR, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals

I use mine for steering in GV's.  I only have the X-Axis mapped.  I did not like steering GV's with my pedals, and I wanted the main stick for the gun.  It has worked well for me.  I tried to use it for trim in Mode 1, but I did not like the way it worked.

Before TrackIR, I had it programmed to move my view up/down and left/right.  Came in handy when flying into the sun.  I could move the view to have a canopy piece block it.

Haven't thought about reprogramming it.  Hmmm....

Aztec, I wish CH had put another 4-way or 8-way hat switch there myself, but don't cut it off...it might void your warranty.

In case you didn't know it, there is also a programable button (Button 1) built-in there with the 2 axes.

You can program it with the CH Control Manager software to be anything you want, but by default it is the switch used to select or change the Program mode of your stick setup. Each button can have up to 3 separate functions programmed into it.

Pressing inward on the tip of the mini-joystick changes the programming mode as indicated by the little LEDs that change color to portray the Program mode (Green/Red/Yellow).

Even if you don't use the Control Manager software (I do), you can assign the function of that button directly from within the Aces High interface...just ignore the X-Y Axes if you don't want to use them...that's what I do.

When I had my X-52, I had that little stick mapped [Lt]-Flaps Down  [Rt]-Flaps Up  [Up]-Landing Gear  [Dn]-(don't remember what down was) :headscratch:

In modern jet fighter sims, it can be handy for controlling the air-to-air search radar.  In WWII prop sims, not so much.  <shrug>
